I have last minute packing to do, but I’m bored out of my mind because I want to leave NOW. I’m leaving at 12:50. Anyway, I have to delete a bunch of files from Google Drive, so I thought I would upload a few vids/pics here. I’ll delete this post in a month. I went to Vegas in 2014. My favorite part was the hotel and seeing Britney Spears in concert.
Day 3 and 4: The best thing about being on east coast time is being able to easily get up early -without an alarm clock- and experience The Strip. It was so quiet and hardly anyone was out. It was great. I experienced the fountains at The Bellagio at 8AM.
I didn’t go anywhere for breakfast. I brewed some coffee and ate leftovers from The Mirage buffet. Then I walked to the Bellagio and enjoyed the pop music while watching the fountain show. Then I went to Ceasers. I wasn’t planning on going there but that place is so huge and I’d walked by it the day before. I was intrigued. This is how I got into trouble. It is a nice place…and the casino was quiet. UGH! Yes I gambled and lost everything. ($23).
After feeling like a loser, I went back to the hotel to get ready for the timeshare presentation. Of course I was nervous but it wasn’t that bad. I think they saw I was solo and didn’t feel like wasting time with pressure. I had a lot in common with the lady who showed me the models. There must be a rule about not having silences because I’m the hardest person to have a conversation with but somehow she did it. 😉 I told her about Oaxaca City, Mexico. (She’d never heard of it). Both of us like Bebe but only one of us can afford to shop there. 😦
I went back to my hotel room feeling relieved. I probably will have a timeshare one day but I don’t have the money now. My legs were still hurting from the day before. I really wanted to walk to Aria or the Fashion Show Mall but my feet would not allow it. So I looked up the bus schedule online and found it was only 3 stops away. There was hope. I made it to the bus stop, got on the bus and asked “Is it two dollars?”. “No it is six”. I got off the bus because I only had $4 with me. So no Fashion Show Mall for me.
I was so desperate I went to Planet Hollywood’s casino to try to win 2 dollars! I didn’t. I lost all $4 and “won” 85 cents. 😦
I think I just chilled in the hotel room and watched the news (I’m addicted). Because I went to the timeshare presentation, I got free VIP tickets to a show and free dinner. Thankfully going there wasn’t a far walk so I put my little black dress on (again) and I got ready for the show and dinner. I chose Cheeseburger Las Vegas for dinner. The service was sooo slow. I barely had time to eat. I had to take half of my food to the show in a container.
I am proud to report that now I’m back on my #NoRedMeat (or pork) diet. Anyhow, then I went to Hitzville (Broadway tribute show). I was late. I had a second row aisle seat. The show was great. I didn’t film anything because I knew they were trying to sell DVDs and I would’ve felt bad. There was a lot of talent on that stage. They sang Diana Ross (my fave!), Aretha Franklin, Four Tops, Temptations, Tina Turner and more.
After the show, I had to pack. The next day I was leaving Las Vegas.
I woke up at 5AM (east cost thang) ate my leftovers from Cheesburger LV and drank alcohol. I never drank alcohol in the morning. It was great. 🙂
Day 4 was all about travel. I will try my best to NEVER use United again. The self check in kiosk didn’t work. I had to stand in a very long line. I would have missed my plane if it weren’t for a nice guy who insisted I tell people that my plane was leaving soon. I went there with American Airlines and had zero problems but United…I will try to avoid them in the future.
Overall, Las Vegas was a nice trip. I love new experiences. I can’t wait to go there with my mom but I’d rather go somewhere else for my next solo trip. The major thing I learned is to TAKE MORE CASH. lol. I only brought enough to tip. I was planning on using my debit/credit card for most things. I wasn’t planning on taking buses or taxis.
I’m going in chronological order so the Britney section is in the second half of this post. Btw, day one is here.
I was on east coast time so I woke up at 4AM PST. The first thing on the agenda was the Bellagio Buffet. I had NO IDEA that my hotel was right across from The Bellagio. I thought I had a long walk. So I left at 6AM with a lot of time before the restaurant opened. I took this time to read (“Still Alice”) and take pictures. I was standing right across from Planet Hollywood and couldn’t contain my excitement for Britney:
I had many hours and many adventures before I would see Britney… Breakfast @ the Bellagio. I had no idea that they seat you. I thought you could pick where you wanted to sit. The food and service was good but when they crammed all the solo diners together, that made me very uncomfortable so I left. I had people on both sides of me. AWKWARD. I’m so glad I got to eat something before the other person came. I wanted dessert and maybe more pancakes 🙂 but the seating ruined that. I would only go back if I was with someone else. I will never dine there alone again.
After breakfast, I went back to the hotel to watch news and relax before my big walk to The Mirage to see the dolphins and tigers.
But first I went to Kardashian Khaos (closing October 30th). I brought a mug and a guitar pick. The mug was only $5 (on sale to get rid of inventory) and it is huge. If I had more room, I would have brought at least two.
I didn’t take any photos of the dolphins only video. 😦 (I can’t upload videos on here with my account). Watching the dolphins was the most relaxing part of my trip. I spent 45 minutes doing that. Then I went to see the tigers. I did take photos of the tigers.
Then I went to The Mirage buffet for take out. The food was good. I think most of the buffets in Vegas are for seafood lovers and I’m not one of those so…blah. Then I tried to relax on the sofa until 3:00 and headed out to The Luxor for the Titanic exhibit. Oh my. What a freaking walk! Thank god they had a free tram. It was so confusing. I’m glad other people were there trying to do the same thing. I was lost and almost gave up.
The Titanic exhibit was nice and sad (of course). I definitely recommend it. They had real artifacts from the ship. No photos or videos allowed. After that even though my feet were beginning to hurt, I went on to Mandalay Bay since the tram went there. That place is huge and the aquarium is all the way in the back. My feet were begging me at this point to stop but I kept going.
I’d read reviews of the aquarium and wasn’t expecting much but it was nice. I’d go again.
I had to take a pic of a Buddha in a fish tank. Nice touch. 😉 One more photo cause I love fish:
They had sharks, snakes, the cutest turtles, sting rays etc.
By this time my feet and legs were killing me. PLUS I had overdosed on Afrin. Long story. I’ll try to shorten it. My cold came back I couldn’t find the children’s medicine I usually take so instead of walking to Walgreens to get it, I went to the ABC store and all they had was Afrin which I had never used before. I sprayed too much because I couldn’t feel it and I was dizzy. At this point, I knew I couldn’t walk all the way back to my hotel. I didn’t know taxis accept credits cards in Vegas so I foolishly used the ATM. The fees. The FEES!
Anyway, as I was waiting for someone else to use the ATM, I felt so dizzy, I thought I would faint. All I could think of was: I cannot faint right now, not before I see Britney Spears. I was sure someone was going to have to call an ambulance. Obviously that did not happen. I got money from the ATM, walked as far as I could, got a taxi and took some pain killers when I got to the hotel room.
I relaxed for a couple of hours, took a shower, put my little black dress on and got ready for Ms. Spears. When I got there I was the only one in the section even though it was 15 minutes until show time. I wondered would I get to talk to any Brit fans and I did! The woman beside me was solo too so we talked. This was her second time seeing Brit. She saw her on the “Circus” tour. (This was my first time). This was the closest I’ve ever been to a club experience. I loved it. At first I was extremely apprehensive and barely moved. But then the other people moved closer to the pit while I stayed back near my seat by myself and danced! It was a great experience.
Enough about me. What about Britney? She was amazing! She was so happy. She smiled a lot. She isn’t always like this so I felt extremely lucky to be there when Brit was in a good mood. I made eye contact with smiley Britney. OMG. !!!111!!! I almost died. It was so surreal. The whole night. This pic was taken right after the eye contact:
The band was great. I didn’t like all of the versions of the songs. My favorite was “Til the World Ends”. I thought “Circus” and other songs fell a little flat. I just didn’t really like the arrangements. Brit interacted with the crowd and actually acknowledged we were there! I was not expecting that at all from other reviews. So many people talk about her being robotic and dead in the eyes. Well she was fine on October 15.
I could go on. Here is a video of Britney performing Womanizer:
Would I go see her show again? If I go to Vegas within the next two years, it would crush me to not see her again but I might want to see something else. If she releases another album (I’m sure she will) then I will want to see her again because the setlist will be different. This is all up to when my mom wants to go and when I have money. I’m not going back alone…but Britney is worth it. Another pic:
After the show, I went back to my hotel and smiled myself to sleep. 🙂 Day 3 & 4 coming together in the next post. Day two was my favorite day despite how it ended with me barely being able to walk.
Um, I said I would probably never go back to Vegas. Well now my mom REALLY wants to go so guess who is going with her…moi. The trip will probably happen in the next 2-3 years. I would not return on my own. But going with someone else when it is their first trip is kind of cool.
Day 2 was my favorite day. On day 1 not much happened. I fell (horizontally) on the tram at the airport in Dallas. No one asked if I was okay. Some people laughed. Anyhow getting to Vegas wasn’t that bad. The 3 hour time difference sort of threw me. I went to bed at 7pm PST! I woke up early everyday and pretty much stayed on east coast time during the whole trip.
I followed my itinerary which was the best idea ever. If you go to Vegas, go with a plan. The first thing I did after being on a plane for 5.5 hours was go to the Miracle Mile Mall. The Elara is right next door to it. I know that mall inside and out. I had to walk through it at least 4-5 times a day to get to The Strip. First I went to the ABC store just to check out their prices on souvenirs (affordable!), then I went to Cheeseburger Las Vegas. I went off of my #NoRedMeat (or pork) diet for this trip. I had a fruity alcoholic beverage and a burger and fries.
The food is okay. Nothing special. Due to the location, I would go back. I just had a problem with how long it takes them to prepare the food. I went there twice, at different times of day and both times it took a while.
After that, I checked into the hotel. I could have checked in earlier but I didn’t know that. OMG. I love that hotel so much!! It is soooo nice. There are cheaper places to stay on The Strip but I will only stay at The Elara. Planet Hollywood is right beside it but they seem to cater to a younger crowd which could mean more noise so I’m staying away from there.
See that fridge? Everyone who knows me, knows that that is my dream fridge. I ate at the dining room table quite a bit. The kitchen came with a blender, coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, utensils, plates, cups etc. There is also a washer and dryer in the bathroom and a nice jacuzzi in the bedroom.
I didn’t take pics of the view because I did a video instead. The view was very nice. I could see the “Eiffiel Tower”, Wynn, Ceasers Palace, etc. from my window. It was awesome at night. On day 3, I had enough of the view and put the projector screen down instead:
How cool is that? I only watched the news while I was there. Normally I would’ve watched sports but the only sports on were football (which I’m boycotting) and baseball (which I hate) so no sports.
After checking in, I went on a bus tour of The Strip and downtown Las Vegas. I thought downtown would be nice looking but it wasn’t. At all. The tour was okay. It is something you definitely want to do on day 1 or 2 so you will know where things are. I took a few pics from the bus:
I could tell the tour guide was getting a little (?) frustrated with me because I wasn’t a talker. I was so thankful when other people got on. When I went downtown, it was only me and another couple on the bus for the whole hour!
And then I went to bed. LOL. Day one was nice. Not a lot happened. I figured I might be tired from travel so I saved most things for day 2.
to be continued….(with much more pics – I didn’t realize I took more videos than pics until I got home)
This is just a quick entry going over a few things that happened in Vegas. I will have 1-3 Vegas posts later (with pics!)
First things first. I did so much walking on Tuesday and Wednesday that by Wednesday night I had to get a taxi back to my hotel. (I made it to New York, New York’s taxi stand). That might not sound horrible but that also meant that I couldn’t walk hardly anywhere on Thursday. I tried to catch the bus to the Fashion Show Mall because I knew there was no way I could walk there but the bus costs $6.00 for two hours. I only had $4.00 cash on me so no TopShop for me. Woe is me.
My feet/legs still have not recovered. If I ever go to Vegas again, I’m going to have to rent a scooter. That might be my #1 reason I never go back there. My other reason I won’t go back there is…..
MONEY. Vegas is for people with money. It disgusts me (not people with money…Vegas). I know that sounds extreme but I just don’t like a place like that for a “vacation”. That’s not how I roll.
Britney Spears. She didn’t half ass the show like she did on October 11th. I was so worried about that. But she was ON and she was happy. To see her happy, made me happy. I don’t think Britney is good at faking it. When she is having a bad day, she sucks at her job just like normal folk. I can’t say I never mailed it in. at work… ::coughFridayBeforeVegascough:: I do feel bad for the fans that traveled to Vegas just to see her and then she just half asses it. Those fans don’t care about The Bellagio or gambling. They come from all over the world just to see her show and then they get a spiritless Brit. That sucks.
More on Britney later.
Oh, I did gamble. FUCK. Worst decision ever. I didn’t know it was so easy to gamble in Vegas. I thought it would be intimidating. Uh, not at all. I easily found spots all to myself to gamble. I only spent about 15 minutes actually gambling but I did walk around casinos quite a bit. It is impossible to NOT walk through a casino there. I spent wasted about $27 and won 85 cents (lolz). The second time I was desperately trying to win money so I could take the bus to the Fashion Show Mall.
Overall the trip was okay. The leg pain limited me A LOT. If I had to rank vacation destinations, I would go:
Oaxaca City, Mexico
Virginia Beach, Virginia
NYC can be expensive but for me it wasn’t that bad because I found a once in a lifetime hotel deal at The Kimberly Hotel (only a half mile from 5th Avenue). No one could ever get that deal now. They have upgraded all their rooms and nothing is affordable. It is 5 star PLUS now. In New York, you can easily find cheap food and even affordable shopping. In Vegas, it is harder to find affordable stuff on The Strip….if you want the Vegas experience.
One more thing: The Elara hotel was great. I would only stay there. It is mid-strip. (location, location, location) It has great views. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. More on that too.
I know everyone (ha) has one thing on their minds. How far did you get on your scarf? Well, I couldn’t knit on the plane like I thought I would be able to. OMG. 3 out of 4 of my flights were full. This is only my second airplane experience. My first one I flew on SIX planes (roundtrip) to Oaxaca City, Mexico. and none of the planes were full so it wasn’t that bad. Dude, at this point I never want to get on a plane again. I’m sure I will get over it. But being stuck with no way to get off on a crowded plane….it wasn’t pleasant. I just sat there and closed my eyes. BORING. I knitted at the airport and in my hotel room (when I couldn’t walk anywhere).
Here is my scarf so far:
I’ll be back with Vegas pics later. I’m still sick. I got a second cold on Wednesday without fully recovering from the first one. I think I got sick because I stupidly left the AC on all night. It was freezing. Duh.
I got a VIP ticket to see Britney Spears! YAY. 🙂 It didn’t cost a lot. It was the same price as a regular seat. All I had to do was wait two weeks before the show. I studied other shows so I knew this would happen. Of course I have concerns about this seat. I’ll start with the pros. I am seated in the front. That’s the obvious one. I get to skip the line and go right in. I guess a pro for some would be the free champagne (Moet & Chandon – not unlimited drinks) but I’m not big on champagne. No poster, laminate or meet and greet like the real VIPs get. $$$$
The cons are that we are sitting at a table. That is awkward. Even normal people have said that sitting with strangers at shows are awkward. If they said that, imagine how it will be for me! I’m apprehensive about that. I’d rather have a real seat. I had trouble deciding between VIP and an aisle seat beside the mix board. Same price, different view. But I thought about how close I would be to Brit….and ugh, I chose close up. The other con is the whole standing vs. sitting thing. I want to stand (while taking breaks when my feet hurt). But if everyone at VIP is so chill then I will be chill too. lol. I just feel like the vibe might be different. Should I have gotten the seat beside the mix board? I won’t know until after the show. Too late now.
Regardless, I’m so excited. This is surreal. Not only am I going to a Britney Spears concert but I’m going in VEGAS. Really??! So bizarre. Vegas is 2,500 miles from where I live. Oh and I can’t tell anyone in real life about this. They would only judge me for wasting money on a concert. They don’t live for music like I do. They would never understand so I won’t tell them. Keeping a secret like this will be hard because Britney will be a huge part of my Vegas experience.
And it is true that I can’t afford to go to Vegas. It started with a phone call on May 1, 2014. I said “yes” and I can’t take it back. There is a money penalty if I don’t go so it is cheaper to go. I have never once in my life wanted to go to Vegas before May. I just love to travel and I got a great deal on a huge suite so I said yes in a moment of weakness. Now I won’t answer my phone if I don’t recognize the number. Well I usually did that anyway but the person from Florida kept calling (and not leaving messages) and I got curious. I have a hard time saying “no” even when it will cost me money.
Oh well. That decision is over now. I will try to have fun in Vegas. I still need to do a budget. I’m not looking forward to that. They have a TopShop on The Strip and I would loooove to buy one thing but I know it isn’t wise. I have loved TopShop from afar for years. At least I finally get to go to the store.
Vegas in 13 days!
Am I really blogging about Vegas again? I’m telling you that is all that is going on in my life. Work is kicking my ass. I don’t know whether a break will help. Sigh. Back to the grind.
My Vegas trip itinerary has changed again. I NEVER plan out vacations like this but this is Vegas and I’m hearing it is better to have a plan. I found out that I really arrive at 11 AM! Uh-oh. The Elara (formerly Planet Hollywood Towers) does not allow early check-ins. But I will ask them to take my luggage (1 suitcase). Assuming they say yes, I feel like I almost have 3 full days to explore Vegas. If I can’t ditch my luggage, obviously that changes things. So the following is assuming the staff at The Elara are nice folks. 🙂
Arrive at the local airport at 5AM EST. Get to Vegas at 11AM. Hop on the shuttle I’m prepaying for and ask the hotel staff to take my bag. Then it’s ON.
I’m also prepaying for a Vegas bus tour of The Strip and downtown so why not use it the first day? I can get on and get off ALL DAY. Good way to see where everything is located.
Checking in The Elara at 4PM. After an hour, I will probably get right back on the bus to see The Strip and downtown at night.
Get up at 6:30AM. Have breakfast at The Bellagio. Afterwards, walk around there until I see everything inside. Of course I want to see the fountain show outside of The Bellagio. I hope to see that more than once a day since I’m so close to it.
11AM – Dolphin show the Mirage. Afterwards walk around the Mirage. Side note: I recently found out Kardashian Khaos at the Mirage is closing on October 30th!! (probably due to the rent going up). Maybe things will be on sale? Too bad I don’t know any Kardashian fans. After browsing the stores, I’ll go to the buffet for takeout. price $16. Not many hotels have takeout buffet. score!
Go back to the hotel. Relax and eat.
2:30PM – Heading out to the Luxor for the Titanic exhibit. Since Mandalay Bay is close by, I will go to their aquarium right after that. I haven’t paid for these two things yet because I’m not sure I really want to spend my time doing this. ??? If I had more time, I would definitely do these two things.
Should be back at the hotel around 5ish. Time to get ready for the Britney Spears concert. I’m not sure why I have to get there early since I will have a seat (versus standing in the pit). But I don’t want to get there “late” and miss the opening. The show starts at 9PM. I will get there a little before 8.
After Britney, I may just go to bed. I’m so exciting. Or I may walk The Strip.
Get up at 6ish again. Maybe have breakfast at a cafe at Aria. They have red velvet pancakes. How can I not go? Plus it isn’t expensive.
After breakfast, just wander around. Go see the fountains at the Bellagio.
10:45 meeting at the hotel. *yawn*
FREE TIME from 12:45 -5 I will probably end up doing a walking hotel tour during this time. Or maybe go lay by the pool. I’ve heard it can get crowded but as long as I can get a seat, I’m fine.
After the show go to Pampas Brazillian Grille at Planet Hollywood for dinner. I have a $50 gift certificate. I hope I won’t be under dressed. I will be taking one dress with me just in case but I know that will be too dressy.
This is my last day in vegas so whatever I feel I haven’t done, I will do.
Get up at 7. Grab a muffin and coffee from Starbucks and then take the shuttle to the airport. My flight leaves at 10AM.
I took going to the thrift store off the list but I do have the free time on Thursday to do it. It just depends. It is something I would like to do but not a must. I’m definitely looking forward to going but the more I read, the more I know that I can’t do everything. I think Tuesday could be the most fun day. Well I am a little anxious about being on a bus. It takes me back to my school days when no one wanted me sitting beside them and I was teased almost everyday.
I will type out a more detailed itinerary (!!) for my Kindle. I have a map of the strip on there so I will probably take my Kindle everywhere.
The Vegas veterans on Trip Advisor are the best sources. Better than the books.
All I can think of is Vegas, Vegas, Vegas. I have about a month before I go. (leave on Oct. 14) I don’t like a scheduled vacation but I’ve been apprehensive about what the hell I would do in Vegas since I don’t gamble. So I decided to have somewhat of a plan. It isn’t too planned but I have enough to do.
Tuesday: I arrive at 1PM I can’t check into my hotel until 4pm so I’m going to the mall beside the hotel and grab a bite to eat at Cheeseburger Las Vegas (a restaurant only in Vegas and Hawaii). I will have my suitcase with me so I can’t go into any stores. Once I check into the Elara, I will be in awe of the great suite and probably not want to leave. The suite is about as big as my house! I have nothing else plan for Tuesday. I will probably walk the strip when it gets dark and that’s it.
Wednesday: My first full day in Las Vegas! I hope I got some sleep. At 8AM, I’m going to the Bellagio for their breakfast buffet. Afterwards, I will wonder around and window shop. I’m so excited about wandering around the Bellagio. Then I have a hotel meeting back at my hotel at 10:45. Free time until 7PM. I’m considering walking to Epic Thift Store. I love thrifting! I’m just not sure I can walk 6 miles (total ) with my foot problems. But it would be so cool to go to a Vegas thrift shop…off The Strip. Maybe I’ll take a cab? Then it is time to get ready for Britney Spears! I’m hoping to get VIP tickets. ::crossing fingers:: I am buying my tickets the Sunday or Monday before I leave. Then I’m free for the night. I’ll be drinking. I’ll be drinking. 🙂 Oh yeah, have to get dinner somewhere.
Thursday: My last full day in Vegas. Short trip. Breakfast at someplace Vegas- like. I’m considering the buffet at Caesars Palace but I’m not sure I want to spend that much money on food. Regardless, I have to spend some time at Caesars. At 11AM, I have a dolphin show at the Mirage. I am definitely going to Kardashian Khaos at the Mirage after the show (judge away). They have these cheap guitar picks and a latte mug I really want. Free time. Then at 5:30 I’m going to the Hitzville show (Motown tribute show). Afterwards I have a $50 dinner gift certificate to use. I’m not sure where I can go to dinner yet. I should probably check that out.
Friday: Ugh. I have to leave. I have a 5.5 hour flight to New Jersey. That is a looong flight to me. Then I get on another (short) flight to go home.
I’m the most excited about being able to drink fruity alcoholic drinks. 🙂 I don’t have to drive anywhere so I can drink in restaurants!!!1!!! I will drink so much in Vegas…but I won’t get drunk. I will definitely have at least 2 drinks a day. I also want to try the roller coaster at New York, New York. I have never been on a roller coaster in my life! Maybe I’ll even go to a club (sooo not in the plans). I’ve never been to a club.
So what did you do in Vegas? Britney, dolphins and drink. Sounds good to me.
P.S. I am totally going off my #NoRedMeat (or pork) diet during my Vegas trip. Then when I get back I’ll do a cleanse.
Music for the week: Ariana Grande, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith, Mariah Carey, Mirana and The Diamonds, Miranda Lambert, Britney Spears, Lana Del Rey,
Latch (acoustic) by Sam Smith is my song of the week.
TV for the week: Big Brother, Homeland (season 3), college football
Knitting projects of the week: No need for weekly pics since the pieces don’t look much different week to week. I worked on my shawl and hat. I want to take a knitting project on the plane. I think I’m taking something new and easy. I would hate to take something I’ve been working on and have something happen to it. I will probably start a new shawl or scarf.
I’m supposed to do my juice cleanse this Sunday. I have my organic apple juice ready to go.
I’M OFFICIALLY GOING TO VEGAS. I meant to yell. 😉 I’m going from October 14 – Oct 17. As of right now, I’m 85% sure I’m going by myself but something could change with someone else. I’m staying in a hotel on the middle of the Strip. I’m staying at the Elara. It has great reviews on Trip Advisor.
the location. It is right next to the mall and Planet Hollywood. It is also very close to Bellagio. If you get a high enough room (over floor 30), you can get a great view.
NO casino in the hotel. YAY! I don’t plan on gambling at all but since I will be going into hotels with casinos…you never know.
I’m staying in a 1 bedroom suite. It has a washer/dryer, whole kitchen and dishwasher. I don’t even have a washer or dishwasher at home! It is just like a condo.
Most guests have to pay for wi-fi. WTF? I have never had to pay for wi-fi…not even in Mexico! Ugh. I”m pretty sure I’m not paying. According to a reviewer there is a business center with 4 computers and there is always a free computer. So if I really need info, I will probably go there. I’m planning on taking a tablet. Damn. There is a Starbucks in the hotel (a pro – maybe), maybe they have free wi-fi?? I doubt it. The hotel probably wouldn’t allow that.
There is a possibility of getting a view of the parking lot. I have feet problems and can’t stay out all day so I will be spending some time in my room. PLEASE can I get a room with a view of the Strip?
Now I just have to pay for airfare. No biggie, right? ROFL.
Since the NBA playoffs took a little break -thanks- I watched movies. What a concept. I don’t usually blog in detail about movies but these films deserve a few words.
Enough Said: starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Gandolfini and my favorite actress Catherine Keener. This movie is so cute. That is not a word I use often to describe movies I like. It is kind of predictable but I loved it. It is funny, well written etc. Definitely a must watch. You won’t regret it!
A riveting documentary of the recently assassinated Benazir Bhutto, a polarizing figure in the Muslim world.
“Riveting” is right. Of course it was sad. The movie is also a good crash course in Pakistan history.
Twenty Feet From Stardom: Awesome film for music lovers. It won best documentary at the Oscars. I didn’t think it was that good. It is about background singers. If you are a fan of Darlene Love or my girl, Lisa Fischer, you need to watch this.
Frozen is up next. A lot of people loved this movie so I’m giving it a chance one day soon.
I’m exhausted. I’ve been getting up at 5AM everyday to work. Some days I see the results in working more than I’m supposed to and other days it’s like ‘why did I even bother?’ I don’t know. I need to make it work. Whatever. I also need to stop spending money. I have a sick dog, airfare to pay for and boards to pay for. WHY AM I SPENDING ANY EXTRA MONEY?
When certain events happens, it really makes me wonder how the universe decides who should live or die. Happy people with shiny dispositions die yet people who want to die…keep living. It doesn’t make sense. It makes me angry/sad. It’s not fair.
My birthday isn’t until Friday but I got one gift early:
It is 100% merino wool and it is so soft. I keep touching it. I never would have brought it for myself because it was expensive ($13) and I don’t know for sure what I am going to make with it. It was supposed to be for a hat but my god, I can’t understand the pattern for most hats! I’m still new to reading patterns. Why can’t someone translate it for newbies? Anyhow, it is only enough for one project so….I will make a hat when I have the ability to do so.
Guess what I’ve been doing? KNITTING. Shocking, I know. Here is the first half of the scarf I knitted. It may look wrong but it is supposed to be a lacy scarf. I’m slowly working on the other half.
And here is a dish towel:
Every new knitter has to do one of these, right? I’m not even 50% done with this. It is going to be a big dish towel (10 x 10). I don’t know what I’m going to do with it. I don’t currently use dish towels. LOL. I love, love, love this yarn. Too bad I don’t know what kind it is. I would want some in every color. It came in a knitting kit from the bargin bin at Barnes & Nobles and they didn’t mention what type of yarn it is. Bummer.
One last thing on knitting: I’m in love with bamboo needles. I brought my first pair with a 25% off coupon on Friday. I love them. From now on I will try to purchase only bamboo. About circular needles: I do have one pair but the size is pretty big so when I get another coupon I will get a smaller size. I don’t get the circular knitting thing yet. I don’t know what I’m missing. I need to practice using them more. That is probably the only way I will make a hat so I have to learn.
Music for the week: Sarah McLachlan, Ingrid Michaelson, Ellie Goulding, Augustana, Lea Michele, Sara Evans, Ray LaMontagne, Christina Perri
I made a playlist of albums released between 2012 and now. It is by far my favorite playlist I’ve ever made. It is 126 hours and 47 minutes.
TV for the week: NBA playoffs, Desperate Housewives
Movie of the week: none
When the NBA playoffs are on, I don’t watch much else. (Go Wiz!!!) Oh, do knitting DVDs count? I borrowed three from the library yesterday. 😉
I’ve always thought Las Vegas was cheesy. There…I said it. But now that I’m going, maybe it won’t be so bad?? 😉 I have one problem so far with Vegas: Everything costs too damn much. Most of the fun stuff I have crossed off my list because after paying for airfare, how much will I have to spend there? I’m used to going to places with free stuff like DC and even NYC. The good thing is that I could just spend the whole day walking around. That’s free and sounds like a decent trip so I’m not too bothered by the lack of free things to do. I’ll just walk around and take pictures of course!
The next time I post it will probably be about my marvelous birthday. (is that sarcasm? sadly no). YAY! 🙂
