Trunk Club review # 3

Not Trunk Club related: Someone tried to use my credit card in Arizona  (I live almost 3,000 miles away). The person only tried to charge 38 cents so…It’s just a little bit of a headache because now they have to send me a new card. If it were up to me, I would have said, “Let me just keep my old card and see what happens.” The charge was declined. I just don’t want to have to deal with having a new card and blah, blah, blah.

Now onto Trunk Club: This is my best trunk yet. Thanks, Kendall! I haven’t made a decision on everything. I will update this post with my final decision by Friday night. I’m mailing back what I don’t want on Saturday.

NYDJ ‘Leann’ Stretch Slim Boyfriend Jeans

Price: $138

Love these! They are so soft and fit well. Yes, they are semi-expensive, but I fell in love with these jeans. I have to try these on more before making a final decision. I’m leaning towards keeping these. Keeping.

Madewell ‘The Slim Boyjean’ Boyfriend Jeans Walton Wash

Price: 128.00

I don’t like the cut. They are a little too big. Sending back.

Free People ‘Beach Cocoon’ Cowl Neck Pullover

Price: $68

She sent me a sky blue one last time, and I returned it because it wasn’t weather appropriate. I love this color. This will come down to money and what else I decide to keep. I like it, but I’m not in love with it. Keeping

Pleione Sleeveless Faux Wrap Blouse

Price: $58.00

This blouse is so flattering on my body type, BUT I don’t know how to wear it in the fall/winter. I tried it on with a turtleneck (don’t laugh), and it looked okay. I have enough summer tops. Returning.

Tahari Stretch Sheath Dress

Price: $128.00

I love the cut of the top of the dress. The bottom is just blah.  I don’t have a nice job appropriate black dress. This fills a need. I could wear this on job interviews. So far I want to keep this. I’m not crazy about the price. Returning.

Vince Camuto Floral Faille Fit & Flare Dress

Price: 118.40

This is the kind of dress I see in a store and drool over. However, I don’t buy it because I don’t have an occasion for it. I was glad Kendall sent it to me so I could try it on. LOVE IT. But where would I wear it? Even if I worked in an office, this is too fancy. I don’t think it is great for a job interview so unfortunately, I’m sending this back. I had so much fun trying this gorgeous dress on. I tried to think of reasons to keep it, but I couldn’t come up with anything. 😦

BP ‘Tripp’ Bootie

Price: 89.95

I wanted to love these. I don’t own a pair of booties. It has been about 7 years since I’ve owned a pair. My ankles are too small…or something. They just don’t fit perfectly. Returning.

Halogen Long Sleeve Turtleneck

Price: 39.00

I need turtlenecks. I haven’t made my mind up on this. It will come down to money. Returning.

Caslon ‘Mayne’ Midi Zip Bootie

Price: 99.95

I wanted to love these, but they are a half size too big. I’m going to walk around in them more before I make a final decision. Returning

Treasure&Bond Plaid Single Pocket Shirt

Price: 69.00

I love plaid. As of right now, I’m keeping this.

Nordstrom Ponte & Faux Suede Leggins

Price: 34.90 (sale)

I’m keeping these. Love them. I’m wearing them on Saturday. 🙂

Halogen V-Neck Lightweight Merino Cardigan

Price: $78.00

I like the fit, but the price rules this out. I don’t mind paying a lot for a special cardigan. This is too plain. Returning

Caslon Drape Neck Long Sleeve Top

Price: 49.00

I’m probably keeping this.

Halogen Side Ruched V-Neck Sheath Dress

Price: $79.00

Not flattering on me at all. I like the print, but I won’t keep this. Returning

Chelsea28 Pleated Hem Sweater

Price: 89.00

I really wanted to like this. I love the layering look. But it was just okay. I can’t spend $89.00 on something I just like. Sending back.

Overall, I really enjoyed this trunk. I feel like she got me out of my comfort zone a little, and she sort of has my style down. If money weren’t an issue, I would keep the majority of this trunk. To get Kendall as your stylist, click here.

Trunk Club review #2

Trunk Club is a styling service for men and women. You keep and pay for what you like and send the rest back (free shipping both ways). There isn’t a styling fee.  All of their clothes came from Nordstrom. BUT they don’t get to choose from everything at Nordstrom. Trunk Club’s selection is smaller.

My last stylist (Brooke) left the company. My new stylist is Kendall. I talked with her on the phone about what I like to wear, and she prepared a trunk for me. I told her no shorts, sandals or heels. I also told her I like maxi dresses, and I wanted loose fitted tops. I did not mention a price range. Here’s what she sent:

Brand: NYDJ

Price: $69.60 (on sale)

I know this looks “grown up” AKA grandmotherly in the picture, but in real life, it looks better. Anyone who knows me (or reads my blog) knows I’m not a grown up. I dress (and act) like a conservative teenager.

Verdict: As of right now, I’m keeping this.

Brand: Free People

Price: $68

I received a sky blue version of this. At first, I hated it. But I kept trying it on, and I like it. It might have something to do with me really wanting fall clothing. I have enough summer clothes.

Verdict: I’m on the fence. So far this is a keeper. NOPE. I changed my mind due to finances. I would like this is the fall when I will probably (hopefully) have more money.

Brand: Free People

Price: $58

Verdict: Sigh. I wanted to keep this, but I have to keep $$$ in mind. How often will I wear a plain black t-shirt? I will almost always reach for something with a print. So I’m unfortunately returning it. I love it, though.

Brand: DL1961

Price: $168

I don’t own a pair of white jeans. Yes, there is an obvious reason for that. Hello? Who can keep white clean?

Verdict: I wanted to like these, but they were a tad too big. I’m not paying $168 for jeans unless they fit perfectly.

Brand: Equipment

Price: $218

I love Equipment. I borrowed one of their blouses from Rent The Runway. I wore it during my Asheville vacay.

Verdict: Returning. I didn’t love it enough to spend $218.

Brand: Felicity & CoCo

Price: $88

I thought I would like this, but the colors…ugh! The bottom is orange and pink. I don’t wear orange.

Verdict: Returning. For some reason she sent me a medium even though I told them, I wear a small in dresses. A tad too big.

Brand: Felicity & CoCo

Price: $88

Same brand, same size, different fit. Strange. This is also a medium, but it fits! Well, it is too long, but I will either wear wedges or get it hemmed. This is by far my favorite item. However, I have so many blue and white maxi dresses. Tough decision.

Verdict: Keeping. 🙂

Brand: Frame

Price: $249

I wanted to try these because I don’t have anything like them. Let’s just get to the verdict.

Verdict: Too big. Too long. Horrible fit. Returning.

Brand: Joie

Price: $268

I requested two floral blouses because she was giving me mostly solids. I like prints. I love Joie but…

Verdict: Returning. Despite the floral print, this is still too plain.

Brand: Joie

Price: $228

Joie has such beautiful blouses. I don’t know why I didn’t get the ones I saw in Saks 5th Avenue. Perhaps they don’t have them at Nordstrom/Trunk Club? I haven’t checked.

Verdict: Returning. Too plain.

Brand: Joie

Price: $238

It looks a little better in person.

Verdict: Returning

Brand: Eileen Fisher

Price: $98

This was the most disappointing item I received.

Verdict: returning $98 for that cropped t-shirt?!

Brand: Halogen

Price: $46

I love cardigans, but I like them to be oversized. Way too fitted.

Verdict: Returning

Brand: Halogen

Price: $46

I can get a similar cardigan at Forever 21. Too fitted (again). Too plain.

Verdict: Returning

Brand: Paige Denim

Price: $179

I wanted to try these jeans because I have never tried cropped jeans before. AND I love Paige jeans. I have a pair I have been wearing constantly from ThredUp. I paid less than $35 for those jeans.

Verdict: Returning. They are a little too big.

I wanted to keep a pair of jeans. It isn’t Kendall’s fault that I’m losing weight, and nothing really fits at the moment. Overall, I think she did a good job. I don’t dress my age. I guess I should ask for trendier items. I don’t know how to word it. Most of these blouses/cardigans are too grown up for me.

There is still a chance I may change my mind on some things if something goes on sale like the NYDJ blouse did. I will update this post if I change my mind. As of right now, I’m only keeping 3 things.

I enjoyed this trunk more than my first trunk because I had more options.  If you want Kendall as your stylist you can click right here.

Trunk Club review (#1)

Trunk Club is a styling service for men and women. If you live near a Trunk Club office, you can go in person and get styled, or you can have the clothes delivered to you. I had the clothes delivered to me. They have offices in Chicago, Dallas, LA, NYC, and DC. I’m planning to go to their office in DC to get personally styled. But I want to have enough money to splurge, so that is on hold. You keep and pay for what you like and send the rest back (free shipping both ways). There isn’t a styling fee.  All of my clothes came from Nordstrom, but I think they can pull clothes from other places as well.

I asked for a low price point and a casual maxi dress or skirt. I also told her I work from home and that I dress conservatively. Here is what my stylist (Brooke) sent me:

Brand: Love, Fire

Cost: $52

Verdict:  I’m keeping this. I love maxi dresses, and this one fits. Love the color.

Brand: Splendid

Cost: $178

Verdict:  Sending back. Um, vertical stripes?? NO. I don’t like this dress at all. It’s a little too dressy and definitely too pricey.

Brand: Splendid

Cost: $68

Verdict: Sending back. Not my style and $68 for a t-shirt? It also hangs a little too low.

Brand: Caslon

Cost: $68

Verdict: Sending back. I was so excited to receive this, but the fabric is too thin. Not worth it.

Brand: Stem

Cost: $41 (on sale)

Verdict: Sending back. Way too long. I like it, but it drags on the floor.

Brand: Halogen

Cost: $68

Verdict: Keeping. I didn’t want to like this dress, but I do. I hate showing my legs, but I will wear pantyhose and a tall pair of boots. Winner.

Brand: Nordstrom

Cost: $28

Verdict: Sending back. Just a pair of simple leggings. Nothing special. See below.

Brand: Two by Vince Camuto

Cost: $49

Verdict: Sending back. I LOVE these, but they are too big. She sent a medium; I need a small. Maybe she will resend these to me? Or I may buy them straight from Nordstroms if my stylist isn’t responsive. They are so nice. They are called leggings but they are more like slacks. I don’t have a pair of black slacks.

Update: Brooke is sending me the above leggings in a size small. I’m not getting another trunk for now.

Overall, I’m pleased with the items. I’m only keeping 2 out of 7, but I liked 3 out of 7. One is a sizing issue. I hear they expect you to keep at least 1-2 items per trunk so not bad.

Most trunks come with 15 items, but since I asked for items below $75, she sent what she called a “small trunk.” I would NOT recommend going that low. I would ask for items below $125-$150 if I had to do it again. The stylist will tell you that Trunk Club is a premium clothing service and blah, blah. So don’t ask for clothes under $75 even though they do have clothes under that price point, they clearly don’t like being asked for that. (Not based only on my experience, but also reading the experience of others).

From all the research I’ve done, I feel confident Trunk Club is a good company. However, it is all about the stylist. There are a few bad apples out there. They don’t respond to emails or on the app. Brooke will call you as soon as you sign up. That’s what she did with me a few months ago. She responds quickly to messages and will treat you with respect. I recommend her. I haven’t heard one bad word about her.

I will update this post if Brooke decides to send a follow-up trunk like many stylists do.

I’m getting my first Stitch Fix on April 14th. I’m excited to try them. Their clothes cost less than Trunk Club.  I will do a short entry on SF when I get my first box. Thanks for reading!

Emotion is a wild thing

It looks like I’m giving blood on Tuesday. I might try to get out of it. I felt ambushed. I’ve never done it before. The last time I tried to give blood was about 11 years ago, and I was told that I didn’t weigh enough. Apparently there is some crisis and they really need blood, so I guess I’m doing it. Sigh. I have to leave my house during my usual naptime (slight sarcasm). Oh well. Sacrifices and blah, blah. Help mankind.

This is making me feel weird. Last week or the week before, I was searching for places to sell plasma because I was desperate for money and some blood banks came up and then out of the blue she calls me? I don’t know…

I got out of the Jehovah Witness celebration (?) yesterday. I went last year. It didn’t go well. lol. Social situations and me. I said if M didn’t come by my house during the past three weeks, I wouldn’t go, and she didn’t come. So that was easy. For the record, I am an atheist. I hope M sees I’m a hopeless cause and never comes back. I know that sounds harsh. I just hate rearranging my Sundays for her, and she never comes at the same time.

I should get my free Fitbit Zip in less than two weeks. I want it so bad. I’ve been thinking about just buying the damn thing. I need to stop. Patience.

I am doing Trunk Club. It’s free to try so why not?  I’m also doing Sitch Fix (not free – $20 to try). My first Fix will arrive on April 14th. I have a tight budget.

Back to Trunk Club: Trunk Club sends 15 pieces of clothing/shoes/accessories from Nordstroms. It depends on what Stitch Fix sends, but I’m leaning towards only keeping 2-3 items and sending the rest back. Here is what I have in my letter to Brooke (my stylist) so far:

Hi Brooke,
I’m ready for my first Trunk. I work from home so I’m looking for mostly casual clothes. I don’t like to show a lot of skin (shoulders, back, legs etc.)  I am interested in a casual maxi dress or skirt. I also love statement necklaces. My style is a mix of casual and bohemian chic. I would like the price point to be below $75 per piece if possible.

We have to talk on the phone (again) to get the rest worked out. I’m sure she’ll have more detailed questions. I wanted my first Trunk 3 months ago! First, I have to pay bills, get tires for my car, order a GPS, etc. But I will have a little budgeted for those two companies. Enough of this. I will be doing a separate detailed post on my experience with both companies when I finally get my stuff.

Edit: Now I’m thinking about doing Trunk Club now while I have a lot less money, and that is one way not to spend as much. hmmm. Yeah, I think I’m sending the note today so I can get my Trunk in the next week. I’m nervous about talking to her on the phone. Scary!

30 days until the Tori Kelly concert (DC)

54 days until Asheville vacay (NC)

78 days until the Ellie Goulding concert (NC)

Overwhelm! Too soon. Not enough time to prepare. I was much more excited about the Asheville vacay when I was going alone. Now it almost seems like a chore. I’m sure I’ll change my mindset before the trip. What was I thinking when I planned all this??

This week I…

Music of the week: Shania Twain, Toby Lightman, Andra Day, Jewel, Nina Simone, Ellie Goulding, Troye Sivian, The 1975,

TV of the week:  House of Cards, basketball

Movie of the week: none.

Books of the week: I finished reading Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I can’t believe I’m reading fiction now, and I plan to read more this year. Anyway, I gave this book four stars on Goodreads. Minus 1 star because I didn’t care for the male point of view as much. I was speed reading through his short parts. But I loved the female character. For a fiction book, this seemed very real, and that’s why I enjoyed it. It gave me a great insight into how a Nigerian feels about America (generalization). It was way too long, though. 590 pages. It took me three weeks to read it.

Now I don’t know what to read. I have a lot of choices. Decisions.

I don’t have a ton planned for the weekend. I’m going grocery shopping, watching basketball and working on my practicum. Fun times.
