don’t lay down to die

I went ahead and ordered a purse. No, it isn’t Chanel or Michael Kors.  But it will do until I can buy the Chanel bag in 10 years.

It is the medium Isaac Mizrahi  Bridgehampton Quilted Lamb Leather Bag. It retails for $196. I got it on sale for $178. Go ahead and shame me, animal rights activists.  I wanted a black one because it looks identical to the black Chanel bag, but black is no longer in stock. As far as I know, they aren’t making the black any more so I settled for bone.  (If the black ever comes back in stock…buddha help me). It goes with everything. My only concern is it getting dirty. It does come with a dust bag so yay!

How often should I use it? Well, I don’t go out a lot so I’m thinking once a week should be okay. If I’m just going to the bank or post office, this bag stays at home. This bag will be great for any future interviews. Here is a video of it:

I will try my best to not buy another bag until I can afford the Chanel bag, BUT talk to me in 3 years. I might decide to get a Michael Kors at that time. The one I want will be ‘vintage’ by then. lol.

I did my fall cleaning…sort of. My big trash can is full. I can’t throw anything else away until after my trash is picked up next week. I currently have 2 large trash bags of clothes (mostly suits and dresses) and purses to give to the Goodwill. But I’m not done. I will do a winter cleaning perhaps where I will donate more items. I will continue to throw things away every week until everything is gone.

I put my clothes rack up (brought from The Container Store). I’m in love with it. It was so easy to put together. In fact, there was no putting it together. No screws. The wheels were already securely attached. It is very nice. My mom wants a few after she saw mine. I could use at least one more, but I don’t know where I would put it. Unfortunately, my rack is currently full with designer clothes I don’t wear often (or ever? lol). I need a rack for my everyday, active wear. Here is a pic of how it looks now:

I had my cheat day on Wednesday instead of Thursday because I was very hungry after cleaning all morning. I went to spin class today to work off all those calories. I had a half of a tuna sub, a meatball sub (my fave), cheese fries and red velvet cake. Stuffed in the worse way. I won’t have another cheat day for 45 days. And then I might just go to McDonalds. I’m not a food snob. Obvs. Breakfast all day? About damn time! Get rid of those old school traditionalists who insist that breakfast is for a certain time.

Sorry for my mini-rant but places not serving breakfast all day really gets on my nerves. Breakfast is my favorite meal and I can eat it anytime.

I should get my Forever 21 clothes today. I don’t know where my order is. It was supposed to come yesterday. I would have gone to the store, but I can never find good stuff at the store. I might do a “Forever 21 Haul” where I post all my clothes. It depends on how much time I want to waste. 😉

Do you think that I want too much?

Real food!

chicken & broccoli
chicken & broccoli

It feels nice to eat real food again. No offense to Nutrisystem. That is a chicken breast with broccoli AKA dinner on Sunday. But I kind of fell of the wagon accidently (?)  on Monday. I didn’t know 12 oz of chicken was 700+ calories!! I still ate it though because I had already cooked it and amped myself up. Never again. From now on I will eat around 5 oz of chicken. I guess I’m going to be cutting and weighing my food. And I thought I brought the food scale for nothing.

According to my scale, I lost one pound this morning so it wasn’t a major disaster.

I feel bad about Monday but since I’m exercising A LOT this week, I’m still having my cheat day on Thursday. I have another food problem. I spent $175 on food for 3 weeks. That would be understandable if I had a spouse or kids or if I shopped at a high priced place. None of that is true. It’s just me and $175 is ridiculous. Sure, I could afford it once but every 3 weeks. HELL NO!

I don’t know exactly what I’m going to do. I’m still following Nutrisystem. That plan calls for eating 6 meals/snacks a day. I’m used to it at this point. I’m determined to make it work. I just have to cut out some stuff. Be more conscious as Dr. Barbara De Angelis would say. I have no idea what to cut out. Oh yeah, some of the stuff was for my pets and toiletries but most of the money went to food.  ARGH!

I’m really excited about my mini break from work, but I’m also nervous about fall cleaning on Wednesday. Good news: My mom is going to help for about 2-3 hours. Thank Buddha. She is so good at cleaning. I suck. I’m nervous about not getting enough done, I guess.  I can’t throw everything away at once (not enough room in the trash can) and I want everything gone!  I found a Goodwill willing to take donations. I’m going there on Friday with probably at least 2 large trash bags. Mostly purses and clothes.

Speaking of purses…I was about to do it. I was going to buy a $300 Michael Kors handbag. But, but, but it would be timeless. I would take it everywhere. It would be worth every dime! I wouldn’t buy another purse for 10-15 years when I plan to buy my vintage Chanel purse* (retails for $5,500 new). I’m so glad I came back to my senses this morning. At night, I’m FREE. I’m too free. By morning, I’m anxious and I see clearly. $300 could go to my Asheville trip, my winter electric bill, savings, or home repairs. NO PURSE.

*I can’t help it. I’m a Taurus. We like the finer things in life. 😉

I took a Myers-Briggs test after not taking it for years. This time, I got ISFP. I have never gotten that before. 90% of the time, I’ve gotten INFP. Interesting. They call ISFPs adventurers. LOL. I’m 100% introverted. SHOCKING! Bob Dylan is an ISFP. But Barack Obama is an INFP (reportedly). So I dunno. 😉 It’s possible that I’ve changed over the years to ISFP.Or I’m on the edge of INFP and ISFP. I’m pragmatic, but I also dream…a lot.

ISFPs enjoy upsetting traditional expectations with experiments in beauty and behavior – chances are, they’ve expressed more than once the phrase “Don’t box me in!”

Word!

I still think I’m more INFP than ISFP. But I can relate to both. Don’t label me because you can’t. haha. I used to think that all the time when I was younger.

Off to enjoy my mostly stay in 5-day vacay.

Youth is wasted on the young

Today is my birthday. My birthday was pretty underwhelming for reasons I won’t get into. I did get the day off from work (it is sort of a tradition in our department). The rational side of me thinks it is silly to celebrate the day I was born. I mean, WTF did I do? Nothing. But deep inside I sort of like “celebrating” it. I like it to be a special day. I’ve never had a birthday party. Ever. I usually like to go somewhere alone. Last year I went to the state park for two nights. I had the BEST time. Memories…

The day started with breakfast at Shoney’s. What can I say? I’m a high class girl with expensive tastes. Don’t judge. 😉 Now I’ll get into what I received or will be getting. I’ve been blogging off and on (mostly on) for 15+ years and I’ve never done a gift post because I usually don’t get excited enough to want to share anything I got. But this year is different because I got TWO awesome handbags.

Have I ever mentioned that I’m a handbag whore? I don’t think so. I don’t have a ton but I admire them. I try to buy a good (but inexpensive) bag every year.

Bag #1 is: MG Collection Weave Pattern Belt Accent Soft Hobo Shoulder Bag The picture doesn’t do it justice. It is HUGE. This will be the bag I take on the plane to Vegas. That and a small carry on suitcase will be enough for 4 days/3 nights. I will also use it anytime I might want to take a knitting project or a bunch of books with me somewhere.

I have it in black.
I have it in black.

Bag #2 is simply fabulous. It is by Big Buddha. It is the Big Buddha Brandi Hobo Bag. I got it in “ocean”. It isn’t as big as bag #1 so I will probably use it a lot more. For now, it will be my go to bag until I want to switch things up.

Big Buddha, baby!
Big Buddha, baby!

Here is a video of the bag in action:

I also got some yarn, of course. How much yarn does one person need? I must stop collecting yarn. I know this is a serious issue in the knitting/crocheting community.

My sister gave me this Baltimore Ravens shirt. I stopped watching football a year ago but I still support my team all the way.

Well that is it for my show & tell. I had to. I LOVE BAGS! 🙂

Weekly

Music for the week: Sarah McLachlan, Demi Lovato, KT Tunstall, Ellie Goulding, Augustana, Neon Trees, Foster the People, Ray LaMontagne

More men than usual…

TV for the week: NBA playoffs, Mad Men

Movie of the week: none so far

Two days without the NBA? 😦 I may get around to watching Enough Said this weekend.

Books of the week: A bunch of knitting books, The Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook: Proven, Step-by-Step Techniques for Overcoming your Fear

Knitting projects of the week: still working on the other half of the scarf, and the handbag and dish towel. I had to rip out all of the above and start again. ARGH!!!!!!!! I must’ve had beginner’s luck with the first half of the scarf. That went almost perfectly. Now I can’t do anything right. Pics coming once I’m done.

House full of empty rooms

I was going to erase my last entry. It is harsh but I do feel that way when they act that way. So why should I erase it? To act like I’m above that kind of thinking? No.

Check out my brand new bag:

Kathy Van Zeeland bag

I swear it looks better and larger in person. It is a true bohemian chic bag. I love it. I really didn’t want to buy it. 😉 But a Kathy bag for $14 = BARGAIN.  Even the cashier was shocked at the price. “Wow, what a markdown” Yes my lucky day. I will switch my bags weekly now. I usually only buy bags when the other one is so worn out. My other bag (Nine West – on sale) I brought 3 months ago and it is in good shape despite me dragging it everywhere for the past 3 months.

I was just supposed to buy socks. That’s all. But I browsed the purses as I always do. Most of the time I do not leave with a purse.

————-

I don’t usually watch the State of the Union address. I know the state of the union. Plus the media leaks stuff in advance. I usually just watch the news the next day. But since I’ve been watching 75% of the Republican debates, I’m really following politics again. I have Daily Kos delivered to my kindle daily. I read it every morning while drinking my coffee. I watch MSNBC way too much. I will watch the State of the Union address…or at least I will try. I like the debates better because they are a little less scripted.

I’m fascinated by the republican primaries. I’m still shocked Santorum isn’t getting more votes. He is the conservative of all conservatives. Google some of the things this man has said.  Jaw dropping. I guess he doesn’t have enough money to compete with Romney and he doesn’t have the name to compete with Newt.

Who will win in November? I have no idea. I really think the republican nominees are too far right to win the general election. You would think there would be at least one moderate. (Well I believe Romney is a closeted moderate so…) I don’t know. Politics is a lot like sports for me. It’s entertainment. But if the “wrong” people win, there could be some fucked up stuff happening. I happen to be thinking of what Romney will do to people making under $20,000. Their taxes will skyrocket. I think that is just wrong. I could go on but that is what sticks out most in my mind from reading their tax plans over the weekend.

Well I’ve done my nightly chores. Going to read and watch MSNBC all night. Oh yeah, and try to sleep. I didn’t do a good job of that last night.

style

I don’t spend a lot of money on clothes. I probably never will. If I had $$$$, I think I would travel. But I am getting into the style thing…trying to find my own style. After I finish this bio course, I’m thinking about started a clothing/style blog. Yes, me! I shop at thrift stores but now I know how to be more selective. I don’t buy something just because it fits. Anyhow I just had to post a few wonderful items I found:

Andalucia dress from The Battalion
Andalucia dress from The Battalion

This a couture dress from the 2009 collection. I usually love couture from afar because when would I ever where this? The price is $179.00 btw. That is $150 more than I usually spend on a dress…but isn’t it lovely?

I don’t have a little black dress. I want this to be mine.

I’m a bag whore but I only buy one bag at a time. I tend to wear the bag out. The most I ever spent on a ‘designer bag’ was $49!! That’s more than I’ve ever spent on a pair of jeans. 😉 But I am still rockin’ the bag everyday to work. I won’t get a new one until I wear this one out. I’m really picky when it comes to bags. Usually it has to be big enough to hold a book and sometimes lunch! But I’m starting to realize I need a small purse too….

My celeb style icons include: Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba and Kim Kardashian. I also like some of Mary Kate’s stuff.

Is that Mary Kate or Ashley? Anyway I want the jacket the most but I would wear the whole outfit.

I love Kim’s style but I wouldn’t have a place to wear most of her outfits. Love her casual outfits though. She is one of the top 3 ‘best bag carriers’ in Hollywood.
