Project Life: July & August

Shutterfly ships much quicker now. I get my photos in a week or less! I must not have been the only one complaining. 😉 My enthusiasm for Project Life is waning but I still like it. I just don’t obsess about it as much as I used to and that is a good thing.

JULY

I really wanted to capture my yard in the above layout.

Weekly

Music for the week: John Mayer, The Civil Wars, Adam Lambert, Neko Case, John Legend (his new album is superb!)  Tara MacLean, Jaheim, Ariana Grande

TV for the week: Grey’s Anatomy, Big Brother 15, US Open

Movie of the week:  none as of right now

Books of the week: Gluten-Free Made Easy As 1,2,3: Essentials For Living A Gluten-Free Life by Angela McKeller, Learning to Bake Allergen-Free: A Crash Course for Busy Parents on Baking without Wheat, Gluten, Dairy, Eggs, Soy or Nuts by Colette Martin, Bully: A True Story Of High School Revenge by Jim Schutze

Goals for next week: Work related goals. Do more yoga at home. I always feel better after doing yoga at home. I think it is because in a class, I am too self conscious to really let go. So maybe classes aren’t the best thing. I just wanted to take advantage of it because it was available at the gym. Volunteer at the animal shelter on Friday.

Project Life: May & June

Before I get to the pics, I must say that I went to the gym today at work and it was empty! I used the weight machines for the first time. I wish I were confident enough to get on those machines while people are around. Then I got on the treadmill for a mile. My new workout song is Katy Perry’s Firework. I could have exercised forever with that song in my ears. I feel so good after that workout. 🙂  Note to self: I was at the gym around 11AM (empty!).

What is Project Life (click link)? Here are my layouts for May and June:

project life
may

May is my birth month and my favorite time of year so I went all out in my own way. During May I moved and I celebrated my birthday by going 1.5 hours away. I went to a state park for 2 nights. I stayed in a nice cabin. Here is the rest of May….

Two pics were private so I took them out.

June

June

During June I was off from work for a week. I sooo needed that break.  I went to the park near my house. I also watched the latest season of Arrested Development which I thought was a little above average. It probably gets better on repeated viewings but I’ll pass. And I went to the Olive Garden for the first time.

June page 2

……and I joined a gym. (I need to take a stamping class or get better gear).

That is all for May and June. Since Shutterfly had 101 free prints (!!!!) for the 4th of July, I decided to print out all my favorite pics from my computer. Photos from before I started Project Life. I’m doing a separate album for those photos. I probably won’t post those layouts here because they are mostly personal photos or photos of my pets. But here is my first page of that album:

I used a 3×4 card to cover up a personal pic. I will probably play around with this page and change things as I go. I haven’t begun to work on this album yet. Actually I don’t have an album yet. Just page protectors…

Project Life: March & April

I used flair for the first time. 🙂 Before all of this moving stuff was even about to happen I brought a mix of Project Life stuff from Ebay. In these layouts I used things from the following kits: Olive, Seafoam, Jade, Blush, & Turquoise.  I’m surprised by how much I love the Jade kit. The cards from the new kits are definitely thinner then what “old timers” are used to. I also used two pieces of flair from Studio Calico. And as always I used things from Memory Works. (Private photos are turned over).

March

project life
march
  • I got a free newspaper and decided to clip some headlines.
  • I finished reading a book by Pema Chodron.
  • I took my dog to get a pedicure. She needs another one.

project life

  • March continued…I went to the beach.
  • I did water aerobics alone in the hotel. The water was so warm. I have yet to get into a pool that warm since.
  • Justin Timberlake’s album came out. Rolling Stone loved it. I do too.

project life

  • I saw this to die for yellow dress. It was so fierce, I took a pic of it. I didn’t buy it but I wanted to. I added a “must have” button from Studio Calico.
  • Coach Shaka Smart decided to stay at VCU. I included it because it made me happy and it shocked me.

April

(A lot happened in April. I didn’t have time to document much…)

project life

  • Chris Hayes’ show debuted. I watch most of it every night when I’m near a TV.
  • I went to see my “dreamhouse“. I will be sort of moving in any day now. I can’t wait! May will be full of moving (and camping) photos.
project life
april
  • I went to the beach again. heh.
  • I started watching Mad Men from the beginning. Season 1 and 2 are great. Season 3 is bad so far. I wonder how many viewers did they lose? I prefer watching TV shows in a marathon type of way versus watching it weekly on TV. I’m too impatient and forgetful for that. I included a pic of the fashions from the show because I love it. I especially love the skirts.

May will have a ton of photos if I can remember to always carry my camera! All of my project life posts can be found here.

Project Life: January & February

January spreads:

project life
January
  • Ray Lewis announced his retirement.
  • I brought some dishes from the Goodwill.
  • Kim & Kanye announced they were expecting! lol. I don’t usually get excited about baby announcements but it was big news and that is the best pic of them I’ve ever seen. 😉
project life
January
  • The teams playing in the Super Bowl were announced.
  • The Oscar nominations were announced.
  • I read a great book: “Welcome to your crisis
  • I went to my first class at the Y. It was a yoga class and it didn’t go well. I never went back to that particular class but I’m still going to the Y 2-3 times a week.
  • I brought my first EVER bathing suit. I only wore it once because later I found a great one piece online.
project life
january
  • I brought a newspaper. heh. I could have snipped a lot of things from that paper but I didn’t want to start another January page so I only included two headlines.
  • I started rereading “The Power of Now” by Tolle.
  • The pic of my dog was actually taken in February. Shhh!

February

project life
project life
  • The Superbowl happened. My Baltimore Ravens won! Still unbelievable.
  • I brought a chaise lounge chair. I work from there for a couple of hours every weekday.
project life
project life
  • I went to the library near where I live for the first time. I checked out way too many books.
  • “Argo” won best pic at the Oscars. The Oscars were so boring this year.
  • Debbie Ford (author) passed away. She got me started reading self help books. I still think her book “Dark Side of the Light Chasers” is one of the best self help books ever written.
project life
February
  • Lakers’ owner Jerry Buss died.
  • I watched season one of “Girls”.

Sometimes I’m glad I keep Project Life simple. But other times I wish I had all the stuff to be creative. I just don’t want to spend more money on PL. Since I did two months of spreads in two days, I’m so thankful that I kept it simple this time. I’m going to try to take more pics in the future. I have already taken a ton of pics during this month.

All of my project life posts can be found here.

Project Life Nov & Dec

Finally! I’m not at home so I was able to move about and get the final of 2012 done. This is supposed to be simple. I don’t feel like I’m making it hard but maybe I am. Before I post the spreads – I JOINED THE Y!!!1!!!!1 As in the YMCA. I was supposed to join another gym but the guy never called me back. I am a little bummed about that because I was so excited to take the meditative class. Do you know how long I’ve been looking for a meditative class? For at least 3 years. 😦

However, I am excited about the Y because I get to do water aerobics! YAY. 🙂 I was told that I did not need to know how to swim to do water aerobics (since the water is only 3 feet). IF I can find something to wear, I am going to my first class on Tuesday or Wednesday.  (What do people wear to water aerobics? I have no clue). My first real class will be yoga on Sunday. Yes I am nervous. I have a lot more to blog about but this is supposed to be my Project Life post so…

The last week of November:

I’ll let the pictures do the talking…

In December I started doing Project Life by month. These are the December spreads:

Thanks Elise for the quote cards! They came out so great. I looooove them. Yep the top card is from Ali Edwards (don’t have a link for that).

Last page of December:

I really don’t like the last page. Too much filler but ugh, I had to get this done somehow. That’s it. Whew. A lot of pop culture in these pics. I only had to turn one personal pic over.

This is for Project Life geeks only:

Have you seen the new kits???? I know you have. ODMDLDFKD FDF DF D. 😉 They come out in May and my birthday is in May. At first I was going to ask for a new kit but now, not to be a total downer, I’m realizing that a person only needs the kit if they journal everyday on the 3×4 cards. It is a lot of waste if you don’t use the cards. Waste of space/product and waste of money. But if I can’t think of anything else for my birthday (doubtful), I will ask for one of the new kits…maybe. I really just need the grid cards. They are cheap and do the job.

But I still love them. As of right now, I would have to say the Cinnamon Edition is my favorite. I would like to see more of Rain. I also like Midnight. I just don’t want to spend money on it just because. The binders are the best. I drooled over the binders more than the kits.  Once again, I don’t “need” one. My current binder can hold 2-3 years. I love, love the new cinnamon binder. If I would have known they were coming out, I might have not gotten such a huge binder.

I also love the mini albums. I might put my old photos in one of those instead of in my 2012 binder. I have a lot of room left in my 2012 album because I started in September. Or maybe if I go on a trip where I take a ton of photos, I will use one of the minis as a travel album. I have my eyes on the cherry one.

Yeah I know Seafoam and the Olive editions are already out. I want to compare Seafoam with the new kits coming out in May before I make a decision. At this point I’m leaning towards not getting anymore kits. 😦 I’m “making” my own title cards for 2013 so all I need are the lined 3×4 cards. No full kits needed. Remember LESS is my word for the year…even if I’m failing at it in many ways.

Project Life geekery. yeah. okay, bye.

new year, new project life

I still have to post my pages from December 2012 but first I have to do them. I did start my 2013 Project Life book:

project life

I am using a mixture of the cherry edition and the turquoise edition for this year. I will probably mostly use turquoise.

My binder is huge:

I put in the plastics/sheets I think I might use for 2013. See how much room is left over? I will use this binder for the next THREE years if I live that long.

MY TOP 12 ALBUMS OF 2012

1. Jason Mraz  – Love is a Four Letter Word

2. Rachael Sage – Haunted By You

3. Alanis Morissette – havoc and bright lights

4. Melanie Fiona – The MF Life

5. Tristan Prettyman – Cedar + Gold

6. Fun.  – Some Nights

7. Frank Ocean – Channel ORANGE

8. No Doubt – Push and Shove

9. Christina Aguilera – Lotus

10. Lana Del Rey – Born to Die

11. Yuna – Yuna

12. Grace Potter and the Nocturnals – The Lion The Beast The Beat

Honorable mentions (in no particular order):

Alabama Shakes – Boys & Girls

Bonnie Raitt – Slipstream

Philip Phillips – The World From the Side of the Moon

Nelly Furtado – The Spirit Indestructible

I listened to over 70 albums released this year. DMB and Bob Dylan’s albums were also good. It was too overwhelming to do a top 40 albums list like I planned.

Project Life – November

When I was 11 or 12, I started my first scrapbook. It was all pop culture (mostly music related stuff). Well now I kind of want to go back into that. The only difference is now I’m not that into pop culture. I don’t worship any celebrities anymore. That makes me officially old. 😦

Anyhow, I just think I’ll be more interested in what was going on in the world in 3 years than what was going on in my life. I’m expecting a lot more focus on news and maybe on sports in my future layouts. For example this week, I’m thinking about including Susan Rice in my layout. And I’ll write a little about what is going on with her. But then again I don’t want  my scrapbook to be too impersonal. I need a good mixture.

Here is an overview of November 5 – 18 2012

2 week overview

Close up of the week of November 5

week of the election

I could have done a lot more on the election with all the stuff I got in the mail. Yes I did vote for Obama. NO I do not support him on a lot of things. The drones. etc. It annoys me when people like um, The President says he has a mandate to do something just because he won. Uh, no I don’t think so. Not with my vote. Anyway….

Week of November 12

I turned over a private photo. The only pop culture thing in this layout is the top ten songs on iTunes. I’m going to label these photos later. I could not find a pen when I was doing the final touches. Sad but true. :/

I’m not done with the week of Thanksgiving but it only needs one more pic, so I’ll post it anyway:

lincoln week

I also have to do the title card.

Starting December 2012 and in all of 2013, I am going to do Project Life on a monthly basis. Doing it weekly is all too much. I love PL, but now I can understand why people quit doing it. I felt silly stressing so much over this hobby. Instead of quitting, I am going to just take pictures when I take pics. No more forced picture taking. Since I don’t have a good camera phone, I can go a week without even taking a pic. The weekly thing is too much pressure.

I don’t know how this will affect my journaling. That is one of the things I love about PL. I think I will have a routine where I journal at the same time. When I was doing it weekly, I would try to set things up on Sundays…I don’t know. I just feel less anxious about the whole thing if I just see what pics I have on a monthly basis. I even thought about giving it up but I’m too invested now. I have to do it for 2013.

Ideally I would like to post my layouts once a month but I don’t print photos that often. I will probably post 2-3 months at a time starting in 2013. And who knows? In 2014 if I’m still doing it, I might just scrapbook without dates in mind. It sounds kind of nice to just put whatever in my scrapbook whenever I want and wherever. But I’m committed to doing 2013 monthly.

Read about Project Life here. I am using the Cherry Edition.

One more photo:

look @ storm!

Excuse the mess. That is the only spot I have for the new tank. It is 5 gallons – believe it or not. It is definitely better to get a horizontal tank if you have room. There is Storm, the betta fish. If you look closely at the bottom of the aquarium near the sponge bob cave, you can see one of the frogs. I think that’s Michelle. 🙂

Ohhh! The topic in this week’s Project Real Life class is decluttering! I have a lot to say about that. 🙂 Coming soon.
