a search for somethin’ effortless

I tried to divide my goals into spiritual, creative, physical, professional, mental, financial, giving and fun. Some of the goals fit into more than one category so I won’t list them like that. Here are my goals for the year (with an explanation). I left out a lot of the professional goals since this is an anonymous blog. And the financial goals are just boring to list out. Basically I want to lower my credit card debt and put more into savings.

  • Go to the state park for my b-day (in May). I would like to go for 3 nights. Financially this will hit me hard but I feel like I really need to get away.
  • Find a way to earn extra income. This is a need not a want. I have a few ideas. Some involve working for myself (part-time). One idea will be starting within the next couple of weeks.
  • Start a meditation practice. There is finally a weekly meditation group at the gym. I will be attending.
  • Work out at least twice a week. Right now I’m working out once a week.
  • Look for ways to advance within the company. There are reasons why it has to be within the company. After mid-2016, I’m free to leave.
  • Go back to doing yoga at least twice a month. With my dog it is impossible to do it at home so I’m going to the gym for this. I’m trying yoga to lessen my anxiety…which means I should do it more than 2x a month.
  • Start drinking 16 ounces of water a day. I hate water so this is huge. 😉
  • Give to a charity every other month (starting in February). We had/have a work program that would allow us to give automatically every pay period. Last year I chose The American Cancer Society in honor of my uncle who passed away. I don’t know if they are doing that this year. I may want to choose a different charity every other month. Who will I give to? Check out my blogroll and I have a few other ideas.
  • Block off 8-9PM to either read, knit or some other hobby. I may set up a schedule for this so I can make sure I’m getting in a little of everything each week.
  • Do Project Life for 2014 and 2015. This sort of falls under creative even though all my spreads won’t be that creative.
  • Get the word “apprentice” off my title. This is a time consuming goal but it must be done THIS YEAR.
  • Get B into obedience school. The vet says it will help his anxiety. I’m not so sure but she is a vet. School was supposed to start January 25th but I don’t have the money. Hopefully I can afford it next month.
  • Read 25 books this year. That used to be so easy. I used to read between 48 and 49 books a year, always missing 50.
  • Take knitting classes at the local yarn store.
  • Knit a sweater.

That is pretty much it. I get more excited about long term goals but in order to accomplish the long term goals, I have to break them down in little goals.

I also have a One Little Word for 2015. It just came to me. Well, I NEED to do this. My word is FOCUS. Focus on work during work. Focus on my “career”.  (My career isn’t really work ifyouknowwhatImean). Focus on saving/budgeting. etc.

Goddess Eyes

I should be dancing baby.

Ugh, what is up with this snow stuff? What happened to global warming? Hello? Last year we didn’t get any snow. It was marvelous.

When I was in Barnes & Nobles I overheard a guy on his cellphone. Guess what he was talking about? Having kids! (see entry below). The woman he is dating does not want kids. He wants kids “one day”. He seemed surprised and confused. I guess he just found out. Poor thing. I wonder what will happen. Will they stay together with hopes that one will change his or her mind? Or is it over? I will never know. That would be a deal breaker for me.

I’m planning my next big trip. I’m going to Puerto Vallarta! I don’t know when and I don’t know how. Yes,  I know other countries besides Mexico exist but Puerto Vallarta has everything I love: crafts & the beach. Oaxaca just had crafts…..and good food. I might not be going alone this time. My mom might come. She has never been out of the country. She loves the beach so I know she’ll love PV. It’ll have to be another short trip. Two days for travel and three days in Mexico. I would love to spend more time there.

I really want to go the first week of May in 2014. I’m just doing research now. I have a 2009 PV guidebook on the way from Ebay. And I will be stopping by the library soon to get more books.

It doesn’t look like I’ll be able to stay at the Y. 😦 My 2011 tax return still hasn’t arrived. I know they are busy this time of year. Bummer. I have one other gym in mind. Tax return not needed so I’ll go there if nothing can be worked out at the Y. I have mailed 3 forms to the IRS and faxed one form. I’ve tried everything. If I hadn’t move, I probably could find my return. I dunno…I kinda want to stick with the Y.

My One Little Word – LESS. I have given up on LESS processed foods. I’m sort of trying to put one foot in front of the other and I’m currently getting food anyway I can get it. I lost 4 pounds during my I’m-too-anxious-to-eat-anything phase. I will probably gain it back quickly which will mess up my metabolism. Anyhow, I’m glad I can eat on most days. I still have my moments but it rarely lasts all day.

What I really want to focus on is spending LESS money. I have more bills now and thanks to congress, I’m making less money. I’m trying to figure out what to cut and what not to buy. I could really use a new yoga mat but do I need one? Of course not. My knees say I need a padded mat though…ha. I borrowed this mat: (ProSource Premium 1/2-Inch Extra Thick High Density Exercise Yoga Mat with Comfort Foam and Carrying Case) at the Y. Awesome! Now I want my own for my hardwood floor in my apartment. See how I’m convincing myself that I need it?

I used to be Miss Frugal. I guess that has changed*. I used to be fine living with LESS. I used to thrive on it. I want to get back to that. How do I do that when a new yoga mat seems like a good idea? I recently brought a leather journal handmade in Italy. I’m in love with it. It will probably take anywhere from 3 – 5 years to fill. It is worth it but what the hell am I doing? Shouldn’t I be saving? blah, blah.

I will probably end up buying the mat. :/

*Well I did buy my new dishes from the Goodwill so I’m still thrifty.

I’ll still be there

My one little word will be LESS. Yes, I stole that word from someone else. 😉 But it is an awesome “little word”. I believe One Little Word (OLW) originated with Ali Edwards. (I say believe because I saw it everywhere but couldn’t figure out who started it, then I saw her post so I guess it is her). She has a workshop called One Little Word that I would join but I’m spending LESS. So no class for me.

I love it! I’m kind of starting now but my real date is December 15, 2012. I should have started earlier. lol. Before I brought this and that.

  • Less spending
  • Less stuff
  • Less time in the house (since I work at home, I need to get out)
  • Less time surfing the net
  • Less prepared foods
  • Less sugar
  • Less worrying

Etc. Etc. Do More with less. Yes. Less is better. My new motto. I’m going to put that picture (a journaling card) in my Project Life album for December. I might make a new one for 2013. Yes, I am going to incorporate my OLW into my Project Life album. That should keep me motivated. Actually I’m not having trouble at all finding stuff to do for my December layouts. Lots of pics and journaling. I had to pack all my project life stuff today. 😦 How will I carry on until Saturday?

I have been cleaning and packing all day…..and I’m still not done.
