Ellie Goulding in Raleigh

I hate my new camera. Hate it. I’m getting a new one before I go to another concert. I probably won’t go to another concert for at least a year. So I have time. Or maybe I will figure out this damn camera. Nah, I want one that shoots 1020 HD videos.

Oh, right. The Ellie Goulding concert. I’d give it a B. Ellie did a great job. Her vocals were pristine! I was worried because she had a show the night before and one critic mentioned her voice was tired (over a month ago).  However, she only smiled about 3 times. She was just there to do her job, and she did it. She could have mailed it in, but she didn’t. She also didn’t pretend to be happy either. I can respect that.

The girl is exhausted by this tour. She’s been on tour for 5+ years nonstop. She needs a break.

The audience was decent. They danced and sang along. I stood the entire time (and danced and sang). I should have gotten a pit ticket. I was in the front row right behind the pit. But the pit area was huge, so I felt I was too far back. (I don’t go to concerts unless I can get a good seat). I didn’t want to be in the pit because it was general admission, but the pit wasn’t full so it would have been fine. Next time (if she ever comes back to the US…lol), I will consider standing in the pit. Ellie Goulding fans are harmless. 😉

Other random things about the show:

  • Matt & Kim were fantastic! A+ I missed their first two songs due to the crappy parking situation. They were having high school graduations and finding parking was nearly impossible. It was a minor nightmare.
  • I will never go to the Red Hat Amphitheatre again. I understand why the locals like it, but I’m not traveling there again for a show.
  • I loved that Ellie wore the same outfit the whole show, but she took more breaks than she used to. The choreographed  dancing didn’t bother me much. She didn’t do it on every song.
  • My favorite song “Anything Could Happen” had technical difficulties. But even without that, the song was a bit of a letdown.
  • I loved that she did an acoustic version of “Lights”. I hadn’t watched any videos of Ellie from 2016 because I wanted to be surprised by the show and that was one surprise.
  • I was going to say what my favorite performance was, but nothing comes to mind. She was on her game per usual. I just wanted her to smile and have fun more.
  • None of my videos are YouTube worthy, so I’m not uploading them. I will save them to my computer for the memories.

Overall, great show. I just wish I was in the pit or better yet, that she did not have a pit. Front row seats behind the pit aren’t that great.

I can’t wait to see her again. It probably won’t be for another 3 years. She will take a much-needed break before her next album.

Don’t need permission

I’m back from Asheville! Overall, I’d give the vacay a solid B. I will do a whole post on the trip soon. I have a few videos and pics I want to post. Right now I want to post what I read, listened to and  watched this week.

Random: I find it interesting when people consider themselves compassionate or empathic but use the word “crazy” to describe people. Is that not strange? I guess I don’t consider calling someone crazy a nice, compassionate thing to do.

This week I…

Music of the week: Ariana Grande, Vanessa Carlton, Jennifer Nettles, Keith Urban, Beyonce, Ellie Goulding, Rachel Platten, Corinne Bailey Rae

So many people are canceling North Carolina’s tour dates.  I’m worried Ellie Goulding might cancel. The concert is less than 20 days away.  I would be slightly relieved because I could get my money back, but I do want to see her, and it isn’t like she tours the US a lot. And I kind of want to make a day of exploring Raleigh before the concert. Anyhow, I bet if she were an American artist, she would cancel (due to the anti-LGBT bill). Hopefully, they would let us know within the next few days if she cancels. I know she could use a break, and she may use that anti-transgender bill as an excuse.

I would say 50% of the reviews of the US tour are negative. Almost all the reviewers are amazed that she sings live the whole time. (Um, hello – they are clearly not familiar with her).  The venues are too big for her. And I think she’s sort of mentally giving up on America because the crowds aren’t really into her. She’s not that famous in North America. People know her name, but they don’t know her music.  Btw, Years and Years are no longer opening for her for the rest of the US dates. Interesting…

TV of the week:  Pretty Little Liars, basketball

Really into the NBA playoffs. I watched the games in Asheville on my iPad.

Movie of the week:   Bridegroom I already “reviewed” this below.

Books of the week: I would read so much more if I had a hot tub at home. 😉 I did a lot of reading in the hot tub in Asheville on my Kindle. I was so scared I was going to drop it in the water, so I only read for 30 minutes each day. I read:  Until I Say Good-Bye: A Book About Living by Susan Spencer-Wendel (on page 61) and A Cure for Madness by Jodi McIssac (page 66).

Plans for the weekend: Clean up. Mow the lawn. Run errands.  Cook dinner for the week. The usual. Get back on my diet. I pretty much ate whatever during my vacay. And blog about Asheville.

I’m so tired. I already took 2 naps today.  I’m so glad to be reunited with my dog AKA my BFF. Have a great weekend! 🙂

Everything is just fine, fine, fine.

The Queen is coming to America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111!!!!!!!!!!!111!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Ellie Goulding is coming! AHHHHHHHHHHH!  The plan is to see her in Raleigh, NC on a Friday night in June. I wanted to go to Maryland but it is a Monday night and I don’t know my schedule. What happened to the DC date? Everyone goes to DC! Oh well. Friday night is awesome for a concert so I’m going back to Raleigh. I love North Carolina, btw. I’ve only been there once. lol. The funny thing is I will be in North Carolina twice within 30 days if things go as planned. I will hopefully be in Asheville for my birthday in May and then to see Ellie on June 10.

Anyway, I’m hoping the best seats did not sell during the American Express presale. Can Jeb fix that? 😉 I see a solo seat available in the second row and I would kill to get that seat. As long as I’m not on the lawn, I think I’ll be okay. This has been my dream for 2 full years. ROFL. Sorry, I crack myself up. 🙂

I’m going to get my ticket this Friday. YAY! So excited. The only thing I see stopping me is if I have to get a lawn seat. I’m not going all the way to Raleigh to sit on the lawn. Now I have something to live for until June. Ellie, I love you!

I don’t know how people do this NaNoWriMo thing. Haha.  I have 431 words. I’m going for a short story so I guess 25,000 words would be fine…I don’t know. I don’t like reading short stories (except the classics). Hell, I barely read fiction anymore.

…I grew somewhat quiet and withdrawn – “in myself” as  I came to call it when it had become much more extreme. Unless spoken to, I didn’t have much to say; I wasn’t sure I even deserved to be heard. I’d started to believe (or, perhaps more correctly, feel), that speaking was actually “bad”…Perhaps this was the beginnng of my estrangement from the world, the very first inklng of my illness, something I’d never really experienced before, and a habit of mind that would intermittenetly mark me for the rest of my life.

Oh my gosh. I can relate to Elyn Saks so much. Her life story is like mine minus the whole being committed to mental institutions thing. I love this book: The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness. Ugh, this mental illness thing is so frustrating. People think you can just overcome it. Dude, this shit is real. Real like your broken leg. I’m not going to rant about my disappointment in people. Instead, I’m going to read and NOT write my “novel”. There ya go.

Tomorrow I have to vote. I still don’t want to. I hate leaving my house after working all day. I’m so spoiled.

I do it for the love

I booked my 3 day/night birthday vacay! woohoo! I was so worried someone would book it before I had the money. The last and first time I went to this state park was in 2013. I’m staying in a 1 bedroom cabin. It is really nice and most of all the quietest place in the world! That is why I’m going. Without TV or the internet, I will miss keeping up with the news. I already told my mom to text me if something important happens. I will be telling her again before I go. Of course her idea of important and my idea of important are not the same. (The New England Patriots did what???!)

I ordered my plum paper planner two weeks and one day ago. They said it could take 3-4 weeks. Why am I still obsessively checking my email to see if it shipped? Besides I can’t start using it until March anyway. Some people get theirs quickly. I customized mine PLUS I said don’t start it until March so why should they rush it? That makes business sense. But I still want to hold it in my hands.  I’ll have it by February 10th and then I’ll be complaining about not being able to use it until March. (WHY DID I START IT IN MARCH?)  The Bloom Planner is working out fine but without the sections, everything is so messy.

I’m thinking about skipping spin class tomorrow. I don’t want to use the New Year people as an excuse but that is part of the reason. Last week the class was full for the first time since I started going. All the regulars know they have to get there even earlier to get a bike they like. I have a test I really need to take so…yeah I’m staying in tomorrow to work on that. I don’t know how long the class will stay full. I have to go back eventually.

This Week I…

Music for the week: Paloma Faith, Ella Henderson, Mary Lambert, Jazmine Sullivan, Jessie J, D’Angelo, Carrie Underwood, Sam Smith

Song of the week: Ellie Goulding – Love Me Like You Do (from the Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack)

TV for the week: Transparent

Way too much sex on this show! Besides that, I don’t really give a damn about any of the characters. Okay, I kind of care what happens to the main character but the grown kids? Who gives a damn? It could be compelling but they screwed it up. I don’t get the appeal of this show. I’m on episode 7 or 8. I probably will finish the season but I won’t be watching the next season…if there is one.

Movie of the week: none

Books of the week: I finished Coming Clean: A Memoir by Kimberly Rae Miller. I could really relate to Kimberly…especially after she revealed how shy she is (or was???). Good book. Now I’m reading Get Rich, Lucky Bitch!: Release Your Money Blocks and Live a First Class Life (love the title. haha) and Training the Best Dog Ever: A 5-week Program Using the Power of Positive Reinforcement. I already feel like I’m being pretty positive around him. I only bitch about him in this blog. 😉

Knitting projects of the week: Will I ever finish the purple cowl? That is the only thing I worked on this week. I haven’t been knitting much. I’m trying to finish a course by January 27.

Cover your eyes so you don’t know the secret

I got a surprise in the mail today. I made the Dean’s List. yay. I took two classes last semester and got a 4.0.

This has been a very weird week. I still don’t have my board exam results. Looks like I will have to wait until at least Monday. 😦 Bummer. A wait of longer than a week is unusual. I don’t mind waiting for a passing score but waiting for a fail??? Not cool. I was going to purchase 3 of the very best practice exams if I didn’t pass and work on those this weekend. Now I don’t know what to do. I guess I should just study as if I didn’t pass. As of right now, I’m planning on retesting on September 13. That seems too soon but most people seem to take it over soon if they don’t pass so I’m doing what they do. The worst thing would be to fail for a second time. There is no way I can take the test for a third time unless I get a part-time job. $$$

If I pass, my mom might take me to Red Lobster to celebrate. edit: Actually that has changed, we are going to Red Lobster regardless since I’m off on Friday. ROFL. 🙂 I love their parmasan-crusted chicken alfredo. I’ve only been there once.

As far as the party goes, I go from feeling proud of myself for going to cringing at the bad moments.

I didn’t knit that much this week. It’s  funny because I was sooooo stressed. DUH! Knit when I’m stressed. Knitting is calming and meditative. It didn’t even occur to me until Friday night. Too late.

Music for the week:  Jason Mraz, Ellie Goulding,  Lucy Hale, Mary J. Blige, Lea Michele, Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, Miranda Lambert

I’m obsessed with Ellie Goulding. Obsessed. Here is her awesome concert at the Troubadour:

TV for the week:  Pretty Little Liars, Big Brother

Pretty Little Liars is only tolerable in marathon mode. I don’t how people can watch it otherwise. It isn’t the best show (understatement)…but I love nothing more than a PLL marathon.

Movie of the week: none

Books of the week:  Why Have Kids?: A New Mom Explores the Truth About Parenting and Happiness by Jessica Valenti

Circular Knitting Workshop by  Margaret Radcliffe

It’s None of My Business What You Think of Me by Peter Baksa (not the famous book by that name)

Delirium by Lauren Oliver (just started)

…. plus some job interview books.

Knitting projects of the week: Like I said, I didn’t knit much but I did work a little on my hat and scarf. I’ll post a pic of the hat:

I started my shawl today. I’m so excited about it. I have no idea what I’m doing. haha. This is my first shawl. I hope I haven’t made a mistake already.  Look at my mini shawl ya’ll:

I crack myself up. 😉 The yarn is my fave Caron Simply Soft. color: fuschia
