I Quit

I’m wearing my $559 Michael Kors glasses. Unfortunately, I don’t have vision insurance. Well, I have free vision insurance, which means the eye exam was free. Thanks to me having Triple A, the price went down. With my free insurance, the glasses would have cost $660.

Before anyone thinks Michael Kors was the problem, the frames only cost $136. The cheapest frames were $90, so I thought, why not go with MK? I had picked out light purple Liz Clairborne frames. They were on sale for $130, but the woman thought dark purple looked better on me.

The reason why my glasses cost so much was due to me needing a progressive lens. Trifocals. And I foolishly let them put scratch-resistant lenses in. I wanted the blue light because all I do is sit in front of a computer for 12+ hours a day. I should have told the lady at Lens Crafter that my budget was $300. She just threw everything in and acted like $600 wasn’t a big deal.

I picked purple glasses, of course! I’m still getting used to them. I drove in them for less than 10 minutes. I like reading with them, but I’m still having problems seeing my work computer for my day job. Now I’m wondering whether the prescription is strong enough. My next eye exam is on July 4, 2022. I hope I don’t have to get new lenses. I will have real vision insurance next year, so it shouldn’t be as expensive.

I’m still having problems walking with these glasses. But other than that, everything is okay. I’ve never worn glasses before. Isn’t that obvious?

I’m researching so many things right now. I don’t have time for anything. That’s why I haven’t been blogging here as of late. I need a new PCP. I might take an ADHD test. BUT I might have Lyme disease and not ADHD. (They often get confused because some of the symptoms are the same). I had a tick bite years ago. I never got it checked out.

I want a solution. Antidepressants aren’t helping, but my life is also kind of shitty. The only thing going for me is my dog and my business. However, due to my day job, I cannot spend as much time marketing my business. If it weren’t for my “old” clients, I wouldn’t have much business going on.

I see my living situation and my day job as my main problems. Everything comes down to money. (In a capitalistic society, that’s a common issue).

I’m fully vaccinated—no horrible side effects from the second shot. I had to get the vaccine later than most people because I was sick from gastroparesis. I feel bad for people who aren’t getting the second shot because they can’t take time off from work if they get sick. I took time off in advance in case I got ill.

Update on my dad: He’s okay. He’s in a nursing home until my sister can find an independent living place for him. He has veteran disability benefits, so he can live there for free. Right now, he’s in Maryland. But, for some reason, he wants to be in Virginia. I love Virginia (I would love it more if it never snowed), but I don’t know why he wants to live here. He’ll be happy in an independent senior place because he likes to go out every day, and now he can’t.

I feel like I have so much to say since I haven’t done an actual post in weeks, but I’ll be back in a week or two. Unfortunately, I don’t have control over my time. One week I’m working 45 hours. The following week I’m working 60 hours. No control.

I’m so over people talking about critical race theory. On both sides. #random

Weight update: I’ve been stuck at 107 pounds for the past few weeks.

This Week I…

Music of the week: Dave Matthews Band, Kelly Clarkson, Lana Del Rey, Mariah Carey, Natasha Bedingfield, Patty Griffin, Brandy Clark, Carrie Underwood

TV of the week:  Big Brother, Wimbledon, Grey’s Anatomy

Podcasts of the week: Dateline, Truth and Justice, So You Wanna Be a Witch, Crime Junkie, Generation Why, True Crime Garage, I Have ADHD, All In with Chris Hayes, Fresh Air, Murder in Alliance, Jury Duty: The Trial of Robert Durst, Paper Ghosts, Crimelines

Books of the Week: Currently reading –

I finished reading Somebody’s Daughter by Ashley C. Ford. Great book. It’s a memoir. 4.5/5. I could relate to so much of it.

I also finished Demons Forever by Sarra Cannon (3.5) and No One is Coming to Save Us (4) by Stephanie Powell Watts. The book by Watts had many great quotes and 75% of it is great, but it’s too long.

I’m trying to finish a bunch of books from the library. My goal was to read 24 books this year. Well, I already passed that.

Goal for Next Week: Post on my business Instagram 2 times next week. I haven’t posted twice a week in about a year. I don’t have a goal to keep this up. Social media is too time-consuming. I would like to post once a week.

Weekend Plans: I finished working overtime for my day job today. I only worked about two hours. Now I have to work on business stuff. I’m not even going to try to get everything done today. I will be working tomorrow too. At least, the weather is nice.

Have a great week! Thanks for reading. 🙂

What I Pretend to Be

I had another test for my mysterious illness. It was $200. What if it’s like everything else and shows nothing? I’m so sick of this. I’m sick of taking time off from work to go to the doctor. I’m sick of not being able to eat and drink most things. I’m sick of losing weight.

I should find out the test results next Friday. I hope the doctor finds something. Or I might have to get a colonoscopy. I am 100% against this. LOL. I’ll find out soon about this.

I’m listening to a class on taxes as I type this. Since I have a day job, I hope my business won’t make me owe taxes. Unfortunately, due to debt consolidation, I won’t be able to do my taxes until late March. I’m using Quickbooks and Turbo Tax for taxes this year. I forgot that there is a self-employment tax in addition to income taxes. AHHHH!

I want to make more money in my business this year, but I’m not looking forward to paying taxes.

About a week ago, I was excited for the first time in a while. I had something to look forward to. I was planning to quit my day job in 2024 and moving to Mexico. However, I’ve done all the research, and I won’t take my dog to Mexico.* I refuse. So I’m stuck in this shithole country. Bummer. But not for long. I will move to Mexico (probably Oaxaca City – but I’m not sure) one day.

*Mexico is not bad for dogs. Lots of people move to Mexico with their dogs. But I refuse to drive in Mexico for many reasons and I’m not doing the airplane thing with my dog.

So I’m back to living for nothing and hustling for nothing. I had to hustle this week, and I’m still not done. I’ve been working my ass off, and what do I have to show for it? NOTHING. This is too depressing to think about.

Nothing to see here. My physical and mental health suck. The end.

GOOD NEWS: My aunt was released from the hospital. She had COVID and stayed in the hospital for 3 weeks.

Current events: Oh, who cares? We get a new shitty president in a few days. Seriously, I will hate him less if he does a good vaccine rollout (and I think he will). But the other things he’s proposing? I just can’t. He’s going to be bad for progressives. The centrists will love him. Most of them probably don’t watch the news and think Nancy Pelosi is a good leader.

This week I…

Music of the week: Joss Stone, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Ellie Goulding, Mariah Carey, Rachel Platten, Ed Sheeran, Ingrid Michaelson

TV of the week:  This is Us, The Crown

Podcasts of the week:  Dateline, So You Wanna Be a Witch, Truth and Justice, True Crime Garage, The Astrology Podcast

Books of the Week: This year I’ve decided I want to read more. Instead of working, I now take at least 45 minutes to read before bed. I hope I can keep this up. I’ve finished three books so far. I don’t normally read fiction, but I’m trying that too with mixed results.

I finished Lying Next to Me by Gregg Olson.  Fiction. 3.5 stars out of 5. It’s a thriller. It could have been better. If you’re bored and like thrillers, you’ll be okay with this book.

I finished Death’s Awakening (Eternal Sorrows Book 1) by Sarra Cannon Ummm. This is definitely not my usual genre. It has zombies. ROFL. It was okay. Another 3.5 stars out of 5. I might consider reading the next book, but I’m not sure. It’s not available at the library, so I would have to pay $4 for it. I enjoyed some of it, but I’m not really into fantasy.

Dear Martin by Nic Stone was my favorite read of 2021 (so far). Martin is Martin Luther King. The main character occasionally writes letters to him. The book is about racial justice…if I had to sum it up. It’s so good. It’s hard to explain what’s good about it. If you like social justice topics and fiction, you will probably love this book. I’m on the waitlist for book two of this series. Can’t wait.

I’m reading two more books, but I’ll mention them when I finish them.

Weekend Plans: WORKING. I will take Sunday off. I have nothing planned. I might get some reading done. I just want a week off to do nothing. That will probably never happen for me. I need stress relief. I’ll stop rambling and take my dog for a quick walk.

Thanks for reading. Have a good weekend/week. 🙂

Gonna be a diamond someday

My sunflower is about to bloom! I can see yellow! Next year I’m going to plant at least 6 miniature sunflowers. This year I only planted two (didn’t want to spend money on pots – lol). One of them was eaten by an animal very early on. I can’t wait to post pics of it very soon. I know everyone reading this is so excited! haha.

My certification exam is Saturday. Honestly, I didn’t study as much as I could have. But I also feel like there isn’t enough information to study. This exam is less than 3 years old. My mom is trying to make me feel bad about not studying…but how does she know how much I’m studying? She doesn’t live with me. We see each other about 3 times a month. We rarely talk on the phone. We do text at least once a day, but not about my daily schedule.

I think she has some issue going on and I can’t figure out. Maybe she’s jealous because I passed the last certification test (in 2014) on the first try and she took it more than 10 times and failed every time??? Anyway, I’m not really worried about it because I know this is a practice run. I feel confident (if it is not too hard) that I can pass it in August IF I fail tomorrow. I just need to know what’s on the test. Like I’ve said, a lot of people haven’t taken it so there isn’t much info out there.

I’m sick of my mom judging me anyway. She should focus on her own life. I told her she should study “A Course in Miracles.” Her response: Shouldn’t you be studying for your test? ROFL. She has no clue what Miracles is. I can only recommend things. It doesn’t take that long to do. I just get up earlier to work the Course. Whatever. I can’t make people change or want to change. Besides I’m too busy working on me to worry about her.

The test is 6 hours long. Most people don’t take a 10-minute break to eat something, but I am. Most people eat while taking the test, but I have issues eating around people. I’m going to leave the room and eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich 😉 at the midway point. I did that with my first certification, and it worked! So I’m doing it again. Yes, I had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich last time too. I’m not superstitious. Peanut butter is good for the brain. 🙂

This week I…

Music of the week: Halsey, Kelly Clarkson, Ariana Grande, Shakira, Lea Michele, The Weeknd, Emeli Sande, George Michael

TV of the week: Bloodline, NBA Finals

I’ve said this before, but I don’t know what else to say about the show: Bloodline is good. So dark. Just wonderful and completely underrated. Too bad there are only 3 seasons of the show.  I was shocked to find out that this season is the final season. I’m rewatching season 2 right now. Can’t wait to start the final season.

I’m still conflicted over keeping Direct TV Now. I can live without cable. I’ve proven that. Isn’t it a waste of money to keep the service? I’ve had it for almost a week, and I’ve barely watched it. I don’t need TV to entertain myself. But I love the ID channel, MSNBC (sometimes) and sports so………………I don’t know what to do. I think I’m just going to cancel when it feels right. I just keep thinking about it like it is some huge decision. I need to get a grip.

Movie of the week: I started Me Before You earlier this week. I’m halfway through, and I haven’t finished it yet because the book started coming back to me. I remembered every little detail. I hate when that happens. I probably will finish it this weekend. I don’t like the main actress that much, but otherwise, the movie is okay.

Books of the week: I finished The Secrets of My Life by Caitlyn Jenner. It was a compelling read. I really enjoyed it, but I have a thing for transgender books. I loved Janet Mock’s book too (too lazy to link it).

I don’t think I’m going to finish  Shattered: Inside Hillary’s Doomed Campaign by Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes. It is over 450 pages long! And once I read the beginning I got the point. *SPOILERS*. Hillary lost because she had no vision for her presidency (not breaking news) AND there was a lot of infighting within her group according to the author sources. She had no chance from the beginning. I really don’t need to read any more of the book.

Unless my part-time job starts back up very soon (doubtful), I’m going to focus on reading these 4 library books:

If anyone wants to help me read these before they expire, please let me know. 😉

Still reading: A Course in Miracles (for at least a year).

Planner update: Plans of the week in my Erin Condren

Plans for the Weekend: LOL. Um, I have this exam I have to take. Have I mentioned that recently? I didn’t mention that I got an inquiry about a work at home job doing the same thing I’m doing now. I looked her up, and she’s a legit recruiter for the company. I might respond to her. I doubt they’ll pay me more than I make now, but I might respond to her over the weekend. I will consider leaving my current job for more money.

Thanks for reading. Have a nice weekend!! 🙂

Can’t nobody tame this raging heart

******BREAKING NEWS******* I just canceled cable. I know I’m late but hallelujah. Amen!

11 days until my vacation (woohoo!)

44 days until my certification exam *gasp*

I get my blood drawn tomorrow for more tests after I get off work. I know my iron will be low because it always is. They are testing for B12 deficiency too. Um, I just started taking a B12 supplement. I don’t know what effect that will have. I’m not taking B12 tomorrow, FWIW. Interested in getting the results.

I used to disregard Marianne Williamson because she talked about God too much, but now it doesn’t bother me at all. She believes in the Christian* God. I’m not there (yet?). I am now listening to all her talks, and she is the best at breaking down A Course in Miracles. I just feel moved to share that she does free live streams every Tuesday at 7:30 EST. This past Tuesday was so great. I watched it twice. She was speaking to what I was going through. It really helped me move on from the situation.

*I’m not sure I should call it the Christian God. She’s Jewish. But you know what I mean, right? 😉

People are throwing out names of Democrats who might run for president in 2020. I’d vote for Marianne Williamson. She’s the only person I would GLADLY vote for. I can’t think of any Dem I want to run (maybe Elizabeth Warren is ok- not sure). Marianne ran for Senate in 2014 and lost. Barack Obama lost his first Senate race too. But Marianne isn’t interested in running. At all. 😦 I would donate money to her. Volunteer for her. etc.

Why her? She’s very knowledgeable. She cares about my #1 domestic issue (mass incarceration)  She’s just fabulous. She knows everything, and we agree on almost everything. She’s a real progressive. She is sort of like Bernie Sanders EXCEPT she knows way more about race relations in the US than he does. Plus, she is a student of A Course in Miracles. She would use that to make decisions on policy. (The Course isn’t a religion, so it’s okay).

I bought myself a dress for my birthday. I had a $5.59 credit for selling my clothes to ThredUp, so I didn’t have to pay full price. The dress only cost $13.99. Here it is:

Purple is my favorite color, so I’m in love with this dress. I hope I can wear it. It is a size small, and I can usually wear a small, but it depends on the brand. When ordering online, I usually order mediums just to be safe because I hate sending items back. I don’t think I would trust a small from a store like Forever 21. Anyhow, I’m planning on wearing this dress when we go out to the beach and out to eat on my birthday. I found an amazing restaurant while browsing the net to go to.

P.S. If you are a new customer to ThredUp, please use my link to get $10 off your first order. And THANK YOU so much to all of you who have used my Lyon and Post link. Use that link to get $30 off. That’s a great deal.

My part-time job gave me a $20 Target gift card for my birthday!! Awww. How nice and very surprising. I was so nervous to open the letter. I did just sign another contract with them, but I had no idea what to expect. Now if only I were working. lol.  I’ll be patient. Eventually, I’ll be complaining about how I have no free time because I’m working all the damn time.

This week I…

Music of the week: India.Arie, Lea Michele, Mary J. Blige, John Mayer, Robyn, Ellie Goulding, Michelle Branch, Nelly Furtado

TV of the week: NBA Playoffs, Survivor, Pretty Little Liars

PLL is finally ending. Yay! I’m still devasted over the Washington Wizards lost on Tuesday night. Isaiah Thomas is amazing. I feel so bad for him. I can’t even be that mad they are beating the Wizards.

Movie of the week: none

Books of the week: I don’t know if this is politically correct to say, but I’m obsessed with Holocaust survivor stories. I decided to start reading Night by Elie Wiesel. I’m surprised I haven’t already read it. I also started A Course in Weight Loss: 21 Spiritual Lessons for Surrendering Your Weight Forever by Marianne Williamson. I’m not trying to lose weight right now, but I don’t want to gain weight either. I think this book will be interesting because it focuses on the spiritual aspect of food.

I’m browsing A Course in Miracles. I wanted to buy my own paperback version, but Amazon doesn’t have it in stock. My copy of the book isn’t due back at the library until May 24th. But I already see things I want to highlight. I’m kind of frustrated that I can’t highlight. Maybe I should just buy the Kindle version to highlight passages until I can own the book. I don’t mind having more than one copy. We’ll see.

I’m still reading  May Cause Miracles: A 40-Day Guidebook of Subtle Shifts for Radical Change and Unlimited Happiness by Gabrielle Berstein (on day 32). Almost done.

I finished reading Love Warrior: A Memoir by Glennon Doyle Melton. OMG. Best book ever. (slight exaggeration) Her story is my story. Well, minus the husband drama. I love how she found yoga. Great book. I love honest memoirs.

Planner update: Plans of the week in my Erin Condren

Plans for the Weekend: I’m going to go out to eat at Ocharleys with my mom. I will probably have the salmon again because it was so good. But the burger is much cheaper, so I don’t know. lol.

I’m taking my final practice exam before I have the certification test on Sunday morning. I always get so anxious about these tests! They’re just practice. But I made an 82 last time, and I want to make at least an 82 this time. No pressure. I feel like I’ve been slacking when it comes to studying for my certification exam. I’m committed to taking it seriously. I need to spend more time studying and less time procrastinating.

Yeah, that’s about it for this weekend. Thanks for reading. Have a great one. 🙂

I don’t wanna feel numb

That girl made my life a living hell. She ruined my life.  I’m not exaggerating. Now she’s dead. She died a year ago. 😦 I just found out about it this week. I don’t know how she died. She was so pretty. She had the best smile.  She had 5 kids, but one died. I guess he died during or right after birth, but I don’t know for sure.

I don’t believe in not talking ill of the dead. Obvs. That’s fake shit. Just a warning. It may seem wrong to some to report her death and then tell the truth about her *cough*. But since this is my blog, I thought I would explain how what she did throughout school is still affecting me today.

She is the reason I have a VERY hard time with eye contact. I can only do it when I must. And even then, I’m still not good at it. She gave me a nickname related to how I looked at people.  That’s not all she did, but that is the main thing that still affects me today.

Of course, she went on to live a normal life. I’m sorry it was cut short. Very sorry. Isn’t it interesting how someone can destroy a life and not even know it? Not even be aware? She had no clue what she did affected me for years.

I got all of the negative out. Now I’m thinking about how it would be great if I forgave her. I didn’t think about her every day or even every week*. The thought of her would cross my mind every couple of months. And then I found out about her passing and all of these thoughts flooded back.

*During school I thought of her every single day. I was terrified of her! My whole school day was about avoiding her.

I hope her 4 girls are okay. I’m sure they are. She has a big family. Her dad is some type of doctor. Her grandfather is a reverend.

It’s difficult to move on from that subject. But I’ll try.

I was able to get my birthday week off from work. YAY! However, I checked one of the cabins, and it is booked for that week. Bummer. So now I only have one real choice left. I need to book ASAP. But I can’t book due to financial reasons until mid-February. What if all the cabins are gone by then? Then I probably won’t go anywhere. 😦

PLEASE let cabin #4  stay available until then. It has two bedrooms. I’ve never stayed there, but I’m familiar with its location. I usually stay in the one bedroom cabin. Please, please, please.

I look like a freaking raccoon! I’ve never seriously worn makeup. I have played with it. I’ve never tried mascara or blush (and probably never will). I’ve only used foundation, and that used to be when I sold Avon. I never would have tried makeup if it weren’t for Avon. But now I look like a raccoon, and this can’t go on.

I’m talking about the bags under my eyes, btw. It’s gotten to the point where I feel like I have to wear foundation and/or concealer for a job interview. So I have to practice now. I don’t have the extra money to spend on makeup. But I’m going to buy some this weekend. Nothing expensive. I’m just going to Walgreens to buy the Maybelline Fit Me line. I already checked the website to see if they have my shade in stock and one store near me does.

I’m not going to be able to take the time to put makeup on every time I leave the house even though I don’t go out much. I usually go out right after I get off work and if I took time to put makeup on, I would be in the rush hour traffic I’m trying to avoid. But on the weekends, I will probably start wearing foundation and concealer. (Or one or the other).

I never thought this would be me. NEVER. lol.

******BREAKING NEWS***** I took out a very small loan on my 401k just to survive this winter. So I have money for makeup (so sad), and I’m booking my vacation on Monday.  I would never encourage anyone to take out a loan, but if you are, I say 401k is the best bet unless you are on the verge of retiring. My interest on the whole loan is only $67, and I’m going to start paying it back the first week of February. I could’ve been done in 6 months, but I decided to take a year to pay it back.

I will probably pay it back early if I get a tax refund. I assume there is no penalty for that.

This week I…

Music of the week:  Beth Hart, Jess Glynne, Britney Spears, John Mayer, Parson James, Mariah Carey, Regina Spektor, Miranda Lambert,

TV of the week: Gilmore Girls,  basketball, RHOBH

Movie of the week: none

Books of the week: I finished reading  Small Great Things by Jodi Picoult. I gave it only 3 stars on Goodreads. Not because she is a white woman writing about race, but because the book was too damn long. It was 450+ pages. It could have been 350 pages or less. I do think she did a good job on writing about race from a black woman’s perspective. I don’t know how she did. haha.

I thought I was going to finish   They Can’t Kill Us All: Ferguson, Baltimore, and a New Era in America’s Racial Justice Movement by Wesley Lowery but this is another long book! For some reason, I thought this was a quick read. I will try to finish it before it is due back at the library, but I have a board exam to study for.

I just started The Unseen World by Liz Moore. I also have a few holds at the library. Too many books and not enough time.

Planner update: Plans of the week in my Erin Condren Life Planner:

Plans for the Weekend: I’m studying for the boards and I’m going to attempt to stop looking like a raccoon. You know the normal stuff. I have a ton of errands to run on Saturday. I guess it’s good to get out of the house. Blah.

Thanks for reading! Have a nice weekend. 🙂

Never hear my thunder

I didn’t get to give blood. 😦 My iron was too low. But my iron is ALWAYS low. Every time I go to a screening, my iron is low and the nurse comments on it.  So I don’t think I will ever be able to donate. Part of me is relieved, but I thought giving blood might be my new thing to do. I guess not.

I had a bad social anxiety moment at the blood bank. I’m not dwelling on it, but I thought I would share some of it here. Basically, I scared a nurse off. She was 2 feet away from me. She was facing me and she was staring while I was giving my info to another nurse. Anyone with SA will understand this is a nightmare situation. WHY WAS SHE STARING AT ME? It was so uncomfortable. Well, she refused to work with me when I didn’t give the right social cues. She got another nurse to do it. lol.

I felt horrible at the time. But now it’s like whatever. Typical social person getting their panties in a wad when someone doesn’t respond in a normal way. G-d help them. That’s all I have to say about that.

I’m getting my trunk from Trunk Club very soon. So excited!! I already know what’s in the box. She put a $178 dress in the box that I wouldn’t pick up off the street. haha. But I will try it on. I might like it. I probably won’t keep it because it is out of my price range. Overall, she did a decent job. She doesn’t know my style at all. We didn’t talk on the phone like we were supposed to. She didn’t even see my Pinterest board.

I will do a detailed entry on my trunk when it arrives. I’m not doing a Youtube video, but I will be doing a  bunch of videos on Snapchat (username: kat3x5).  Yep, I’m now comfortable doing videos without showing my face. I don’t want to scare people.

I’m having issues with parking and the Tori Kelly concert. I have to make a phone call. I emailed them and of course, they didn’t respond. That is why I HATE driving to DC. I like the city, but parking…argh! Since I’m having issues with the venue’s parking spots, I was going to park at George Washington University, but that’s a private school. Who knew? (Uh, people in DC). Maybe they will let me park there and walk a long way. I have no idea.

This week I…

Music of the week: Ellie Goulding, Shania Twain, K. Michelle, Jewel,  Fifth Harmony, Little Mix, Erin McCarley, Sia

What an interesting mix. Lately, I’ve been getting back into Ellie Goulding. Love the new K. Michelle album. Well, I hate two of the songs. The rest is decent.

TV of the week:  House of Cards, basketball

It is interesting to watch season 4 play out during a real political season. House of Cards is so good.

Movie of the week: none. I swear I’m going to watch Spotlight within the next two weeks.

Books of the week: A Mother’s Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold. This book is so hard to read. It’s impossible for me to read it without crying so I can’t read it every day. Sue Klebold is the mother of Dylan Klebold, one of the Columbine High School shooters. Devasting.

Furiously Happy: A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson. I wasn’t interested in this book when I thought it was just about depression. But when I found out the author had anxiety, I knew I had to get this book. I’ve read a lot of books from people suffering from depression. Been there, done that. But people rarely talk about anxiety. I just started this book this week and so far so good.

Plans for the weekend:  I’m mowing the front yard (only). I’m like a broken record. I will work on my practicum, watch basketball and read. What else is there to do? I have to finish my practicum by the last day of April.  Hopefully, I will get my trunk and have a post up on that this weekend or Monday-ish. I haven’t gotten my free Fitbit Zip yet. They probably won’t send out tracking info since it’s free so who knows when I’ll get it.

The end.

I’m just a window pane

I’ve been a very bad girl. I ordered two tunics and two maxi skirts!! GroopDealz has great deals. It’s better  than eBay when it comes to clothes, jewelry etc. I’ve decided I will use GroopDealz for future gifts.  I usually ignore their emails because I don’t want to spend, but I have Stitch Fix on my mind and I was pinning tunics for my Pinterest board last night. Then I saw “Tunics on sale for $9.99” this morning. Of course, I opened the email. I ordered a light blue one (pictured below) and a fuschia one.

If the tunics are too long or too baggy, I will just wear them when I’m walking my dog or doing yard work. I hope they fit well. It looks like my style, but I can’t tell. I haven’t worn a tunic that length since high school. (And that was only because we couldn’t afford clothes that fit so my clothes were misshapen. LOL). I also ordered two maxi skirts. I bought a blue one and green one (pictured below). Each was on sale for $9.99. I’m hoping for good quality. Otherwise, I’ll just donate them or give them away as gifts. haha.

It is interesting how “the GOP establishment” is coming out against Trump NOW. Isn’t it too late? But I just realized that they gave the American people too much credit. They thought people would be too smart to vote for Trump. Sigh.

This week I…

Music of the week:  Toby Lightman, Tori Kelly, Jewel, The 1975, Lissie, Demi Lovato, Coldplay, Little Mix

It is nice to rediscover Toby Lightman. Her music got me through some rough times.

TV of the week: Mad Men, basketball, political stuff

I called the daytime hosts at MSNBC lightweights. I forgot about Tamron Hall and Andrea Mitchell. Love them. They are not lightweights. They are professional journalists. Anyhow, I did find a news alternative to MSNBC. I no longer watch MSNBC during the day or evening. If I want news, I get it from The Young Turks.  (I’m not a paying member (yet?). I watch their videos on YouTube). Yes, I am late. Very late. The only thing I don’t like about them is how pro-Bernie Sanders they are. I wish they would try to be neutral when it comes to Hillary versus Bernie. Anyway, here is a clip of them talking about the decline of MSNBC:

I agree. I don’t think MSNBC will be around in 2 years…unless Trump becomes president, and the network decides to be outraged at the things he does. As of today, they are very much CNN Lite during the day. Who wants that?

Movie of the week: I wanted to rent Spotlight this weekend, but I spent my money on clothes instead. 😦 I will rent it; I just don’t know when. With all the basketball coming on, I might wait until April.

Books of the week: In the future, I want to blog more about the books I finish reading so this will be a long-ish part of the entry. I finished reading The Black Presidency: Barack Obama and the Politics of Race in America by Michael Eric Dyson. I gave it 3 stars on Goodreads, but I really would give it 3.5 stars if that were an option. He lost me a bit in the middle and at the end. Some of it is redundant and I already follow Obama closely, so I know this stuff.  However, I do feel this book is an important read.

The best part was the beginning where he explains how Barack Obama may not be strong on black issues because his history isn’t a slave history like most black Americans.  I know people have said this before, but I thought it was silly.  Some were using this as an issue saying he wasn’t black enough, so I dismissed a lot of that talk. But Dyson made me believe that is why Obama is the way he is. His ancestors weren’t slaves therefore, he approaches and thinks about race differently.

Overall, I agree with what Dyson is saying: Obama could be better when it comes to race issues. But that isn’t my main critique of his presidency. It’s just something to note.

Currently reading:

  • Never Broken: Songs Are Only Half of the Story by Jewel (page 159) This is not just an autobiography. It is also self-help.
  • Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I just started this. Yes, another book on race.
  • Chanel Bonfire by Wendy Lawless (audiobook) I’m on chapter 3. Audiobooks are supposed to be quick “reads”, but I have to be in a certain mood to want to listen to audiobooks, so it is a very slow “read” for me. I can’t believe Amazon has this book on sale for 1.99 right now. I would have bought it if I didn’t have the audiobook. Oh well. Too late.

It is supposed to snow tonight, so I don’t know what my weekend plans are. I hope I’m not stuck. Next year I will have a shovel. For sure. I just thought since we had a 70-degree day recently, that winter was over. Uh, no. Sucks.

I’m going to work on my practicum right after I post this entry. I really need to work hard on that this month. I guess that is the main thing I will be doing this weekend.

I wish I were a stick

I feel bad for Bernie. Hell, I even feel bad for Jeb. That’s just how I am. Hillary is going to be the Democratic nominee. After Super Tuesday, it might be over. Shock me, Bernie! I want this to drag out. Sort of.

Hillary has a 12 point lead where I live. That isn’t that much.  Bill came here on Wednesday. I’m not a Bill Clinton fan due to his policies, but I don’t hate him. If it were at another venue, I would have gone. I still don’t know whether I’m voting on Tuesday. I have a doctor’s appointment the next day. Leaving my house two days in a row??! I really don’t want to. Woe is me.

RADICAL OPINION ALERT: I wish Obama could close Guantanamo Bay on his own. I have been waiting for him to do it for seven years. It couldn’t get through Congress, of course. So I no longer blame him for it being open. Closing Gitmo is the right thing to do.

That’s enough on current events.

Countdown time!

58 days until the Tori Kelly concert (!!)

82 days until my Asheville vacay

106 days until the Ellie Goulding concert

When I think about the concerts,  I start freaking out.  I haven’t paid for parking for the Tori concert yet. I need to do that. DAR Constitution Hall is one minute away from The White House! I had no idea, so I probably have seen the building. I might have even been inside the museum.  The last time I was at the White House was during W’s last year of being president. (not IN the White House). I would like to go to the White House during this short visit. I’m not sure I’m going to have time, but I’ll try.

This week I…

Music of the week:  India.Arie, The 1975, Jewel, Lissie, Troye Sivan, Tori Kelly, Leon Larregui, Rihanna

Song of the week: Demi Lovato – Stone Cold

TV of the week: Mad Men, basketball, politics, politics, politics

Movie of the week: And Then There Were None (1945) Well, I haven’t finished it yet, but I’m almost done. I know it was made in 1945…um, not a good movie. They even changed some of the characters names from the book! I would love to know why. Some of the acting is over the top. I thought I would love it because I loved the book and I love old movies. I would like to see the 2015 version, but I can’t find it anywhere. It’ll probably be on TV soon.

Books of the week: I finished  And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. I want to say it was the best book ever, but there is a reason why I stopped reading mysteries. I grew up on mysteries. I was a Nancy Drew girl. I read Mary Higgins Clark. But now mysteries just don’t interest me anymore. I can usually figure out what will happen. What’s the fun it that?

I did enjoy this book and I want to read more Agatha Christie, but it didn’t live up to the hype. The book reminded me a lot of Clue. Clue is one of my favorite movies. Most would call it a guilty pleasure. If you love that movie, you must read this book. Anyhow, very good book, but not excellent. I’m glad I read it. Mysteries aren’t my thing anymore, and that is why I didn’t enjoy it as much as most people did.

Planner update: I didn’t decorate my planner last week so I’m not sure there will be anything here this weekend. I will probably stop adding this to the section. Now I’m doing more functional planning and less decorating.

We have a tornado warning!!! gotta go.

I make my own rules

My grandmother passed away early this week. She had Alzheimer’s. She was 85 years old. I don’t have that many extended family members I’m close to. My uncle died about 3 years ago from colon cancer. He was the closest thing I had to a dad figure. (no offense to my dad). I was kind of close to my grandparents. We went to live with them after we moved from Maryland when I was 8 or 9 years old. Some fond memories, some not so good ones. But she was always very nice.

Feel free to follow me on Snapchat! I think my username is Kat3x5. lol. Not sure. I will probably post another reminder if I continue to use it.

Here I go again…

At this point, there is a chance I will not vote in the primary. I know that not voting is a vote.  If the polls in the state indicate one candidate has a 25 point lead (doubtful), I probably won’t bother voting. I just don’t support either candidate.

My main problems with Bernie include his lack of foreign policy knowledge, and I don’t think he can win a general election. All the Republicans have to do is keep saying he is a socialist. They don’t even have to say anything else! lol. OTOH, independents might vote for him and swing the election his way. Independents probably will not vote at all if they have to vote for Hillary or they will vote for the Republican. At least, Hillary has been vetted. Too bad she supported horrible policies. I have to point out that Bernie did vote for Clinton’s crime bill, so there’s that.

This sucks. Why can’t there be better candidates? Just give it to the Republicans. What’s the point? I’m so sick over my indecisiveness. I’m not used to this. I always find some candidate to support in the primary.

I will try not to blog about this unless I change my mind again. 😉 I have been thinking about going to a political rally. I’ve never done that before. I won’t take the day off from work to attend, but if it is in the afternoon, I will consider it. Trump recently came here. (Yes, I did consider going). He was a 2-minute drive from my mom’s house. I would love for Bernie or Hillary to go to the same venue. Maybe that is the push I need. ???

This week I…

Music of the week:  Tori Kelly, Troye Sivan, Adele, The 1975, Alessia Cara, Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Ellie Goulding

This year I want to listen to a new (to me) album every week of the year. So far, so good. This week I listened to 3 new (to me) albums. Unlike last week, I enjoyed all three. My song of the week is from one of those new albums. Here is Troye Sivan:

TV of the week: Mad Men, Dem debate, basketball

The Grammy’s air on Monday. I’m nervous for the Best New Artist award. At least Tori Kelly gets to perform. That is the most important thing (if the performance is good). I’m still hoping she can somehow pull through, but I don’t see it happening. Tough competition.

Movie of the week: none

Books of the week: GEEK OUT ALERT!  I picked up two books from the library. We have a new library. It is 5 minutes from my house. It is amazing. It looks like it belongs in another (bigger) city. I have never been so in love with a library. I love books, but I usually hate returning them, but I love going to this place. Yay, for the city!

Now I’m reading:

Planner update:

plans of the week

Now I’m going to read these library books because I don’t know if I’ll be able to renew them. I’ve got to get a lot of reading done over these next two weeks.

I dance on my own

I don’t know exactly how affirmative action works, but the people staunchly against it… How many of them got jobs because of their relatives? Or got into college or got that internship because of someone they knew? Hell yeah, I’m bitter. I never got shit from anyone because I don’t know anyone. Bottom of the totem pole.

I always thought affirmative action should be economically based. HOWEVER, like I said I don’t know much about how AA works. I’m saying flat out that I’m ignorant about most of it. So don’t slam me for the economic statement. (A lot of people I admire thinks it shouldn’t be economically based).

People suck.  That statement has nothing to do with affirmative action. They just suck. I have to say this at least every few months. Sometimes – most of the time – people piss me off. Just when I feel safe, someone triggers me. I can’t say more because if the person is reading this (HIGHLY unlikely), they will keep doing it and my life will be hell.

Not much going on this weekend. On Saturday,  I’m working a little over half a day. On Sunday, I’m going shopping at Target. If I go to the gym, it will be Sunday after Target. I’m definitely going to spend some time reading outside since it will be so warm. (Well, warm for December. 75 degrees).

This week I…

Music of the week:  Maria Mena, Courtney Barnett, Jessie Ware, Chris Stapleton, Ellie Goulding, A Great Big World, Demi Lovato, Alessia Cara

song of the week: Maria Mena – I Don’t Wanna See You With Her

What does Maria have to do to make it big in the United States? Nice voice, great lyrics. Sigh. She is finally using her voice better on her recordings. Her new album is album of the year material. It could be her best album.

TV of the week: Pretty Little Liars, basketball

I have a serious issue. Serious. I’m afraid to watch my teams play basketball. When I watch, they lose. I’m jinxing them. It’s all my fault! I’m being dramatic here. Obvs. But for the first time, I feel like I’m really jinxing my teams so I haven’t been watching much of the end of basketball games recently. Yes, I know that is nuts.

I’m also addicted to news. But that has been going on for years. Not a new issue.

Movie of the week:  The One I Love I love Elisabeth Moss. The movie? Not so much. It was okay.

Books of the week:  I have so many books to read!  I kind of went nuts checking books out from the library and now I have so many to read in a short period of time. I may not finish all of them. I did finish Rising Strong by Brene Brown and  The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through Madness by Elyn Saks. I recommend both.

If you are a person with mental illness, the challenge is to find the life that’s right for you. But in truth, isn’t that the challenge for all us, mentally ill or not?

– Elyn Saks (simply brilliant)

These are the books I plan to finish before the end of the year. I hope I don’t get any more books off my hold list.
